Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Clear blond colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have light grassy malt notes and something of the peel of a sweet eating apple.

Pours an amber color. Floral and malt aromas. A little rich on the palate with a hint of bitterness in a slightly grainy malt finish.

[50cl bottle from a Bargain Booze in Milton, Staffs.] A bright straw coloured pour with a loose but lasting white head; musty grain aroma with a hint of lemon; pleasant lemony taste; then some short lived pithy citrus; before a jammy grain finish. Refreshing and not too bad.

[50cl bottle from a Bargain Booze.] A bright amber pour with a tight white head; grassy aroma; and an appropriately twiggy taste; with a hint of tropical fruit to finish. As exciting as a blunt pencil.

Sehr plädderiches Ding - in der Nase sehr künstlich, im Trunk ziemlich wässrig, künstlich süß, leicht bitter, pappig. Puh. --- Beer merged from original tick of Cumberland Golden Beer on 03 Sep 2023 at 15:32 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 4 | Flavor - 3 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 2.5. Original review text: Optisch sattes Gold im Glas, Schaum passt. In der Nase künstlich süß, im Trunk genauso, metallisch, nicht wirklich lecker. Da wurde schön viel Industriekram reingemischt, ne danke.

[50cl bottle from Morrisons, Bracknell.] A bright pale amber pour with a fast fading white head; grassy aroma; bready malt taste; with some carmael to finish. An unexciting old-school golden ale.
