Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.

In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.

Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Bottle from Daniel Tomlinson - thanks! Creamy tan head stayed on a reddish brown still body. Roasted & nutty aroma. Medium bodied, sharp on the tongue with smooth back. Malt, nutty, pepper, roast, berry & tea tastes. Nice one!

Bottle, courtesy of my nanna-in-law. Pours clear gold. Strawberry, fairly cheap strawberry, cracker, touch of sulfur, something a bit odd in the finish that I can't put my finger on. Medium body. Not particularly well made. Also no idea why this has the word hop or commotion in the name, as there's no hint of citrus hops, nor the promised explosion.

On cask at the Britannia, Elterwater. Appearance - golden amber. Decent head. Nose - light biscuit and toffee. Taste - more of the same. Perhaps a hint of apple. Palate - apple and toffee. Brown bread. Overall - a solid citizen. This is more of a Bitter though.

Taste - again red apple and toffee. Almost a cherry stone note lurking. Palate - tangy and creamy at the same time. Medium bodied. Overall - good Bitter example.

Third, cask ale, beer flight at Bargeman's Rest. Shared with Finn. Bubbles at the surface of a misty golden body, spotty lacing. Moderate aromas of ripe fruits, hints of peaches. Moments of peaches and citrus to the taste character. Has got a dry bitter end, short-lived. Satisfying. (Newport, Isle of Wight 21.10.2019).
