Jennings (Marston's)
Regional Brewery
in Cockermouth,
Cumbria,
England 🏴
Owned by
Carlsberg Britvic
Established in 2005
Closed in 2022
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

[50cl bottle from Home Bargains, Bracknell.] A pale amber pour with tight cream head and light carbonation; artificial strawberry aroma; artificial strawberry taste with a biscuity malt body; and nothing to follow apart from a harsh chemical bitterness - still waiting for the hop explosion!

Bottle from Booths Supermarket, Keswick. Mildly hazy golden ale with a frothy head. Nice and hoppy with a bit of a malty base, but has a fair bitterness to its finish. There's hints of fruitiness, especially in its nose.

Cloudy medium gold body and weak foam. Soft honey aroma, slight cracker. Taste is more cracker, vague honey. Finishes tinny and watery. Will do in a pinch but hard to like.

Bottle from my local off-licence ‘Wine Rack’. Pours a clear copper/amber colour with a medium sized creamy white head. Aromas of strawberries and a touch of caramel. Taste has more strawberries upfront, a little caramel, biscuit and an earthy hop finish. Thin to medium body with a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. I wasn’t that keen on the strawberry aroma but it actually tasted quite nice and i appreciate the hops coming through at the end. Not a bad effort for a fruit beer.
