Amber, slight haze, big frothy white head, good lacing. Aroma of citrus zesty hops, sweet fruity malts, some grapefruit, dab of orange, getting some floral notes too. Taste of sweet fruity malts, touch of marmalade, floral hops, some orange zest, good amount of hops with a sweet floral fruity caramel background. Palate - Medium carb and body, quite oily, smooth mouthfeel. Finish - sweet malts, orange zest, caramelised orange, soft floral hop, slight herbal note too, fairly bitter finish.
Overall - This is the best of the Whitewater beers I’ve tried so far, very easy going for the 6% abv.

Very dark caramel brown, off white frothy, bit of lacing. Aroma - slight blackcurrant dark malts, hardly any roast. Taste of light roast, very soft dark fruity malts, some bitter dark chocolate, touch of charcoal. Palate - moderate carb, thin body, some sweetness from the dark malts and soft bitter roast. Finish as main flavour, bit dry, bit of metallic bitterness in the tail, some more roast in the finish. Overall - Not as bitter as some dry stouts. Flavour come across as a bit lacklustre....perhaps the cask beer at a slight stronger abv (4.5%) is better

Light golden, clear, frothy white head that dissipates quite quickly to thin layer
Aroma - Slightly tangy bit sour nose, some cereal.
Taste - Light pale malts, touch of tangy fruits - bit of apricot, cereal, some bitter lager grassy hop in there
Palate - Medium carb, light body. Finish - little dry, bitter grassy, grainy, bit spicy hop finish.
Overall - Not a fan of ’pale lagers’ - but for the style it’s better than most

Aroma of soft sweet caramel malts, soft fruits - raisin, hint of red berries, toasted malts, light aroma
Taste as aroma, some more light toasted malt, bit of tangy red fruits, light soft toffee
Palate - Medium carb, thinnish palate, light bitter. Finish - more bitter toasted malts and hops, slight coffee.
Overall - No way this is a porter, more a Irish red ale - brown bitter hybrid. Wasn’t overly keen on this initially but got better with the drinking. Probably better cask, this bottle was a bit thin and a tad fizzy....didn’t expect this to be in the high 70s

500ml Bottle: BBD end of Aug 14, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 22nd Oct 13. Thanks to my son-in-law for bringing this back from Belfast for me. Very black (I wonder how they chose the beers name?), with a good and lasting tanned head. Bitter chocolate nose and taste, with treacle hints adding some sweetness in the mouth. I found this both interesting and tasty. Good body depth, if a little too bitter at times as ground coffee beans added their slant onto the already bitter chocolate flavours I’d already en-counted.

500ml Bottle: BBD end of Jul 14, poured slowly into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ vase shaped pint at home on 18th Oct 13. Brought back from Northern Ireland by my Son-in-Law last week. Lovely looking brew: Mahogany, reddy brown body, clear and clean, on top a thin wispy off-white covering and collar. Plenty of carbonation bubbles rising through. Aroma is malted nuts and toffee with attitude. The taste is all malt flavours with caramel, toffee and candid fruits to the fore: behind comes an undertone of hop bitterness and woody notes. Certainly different and interesting: good depth of flavours within the body and overall a fine beer.
