Draft at VABF10: Barley rich nose, with subtle nuttiness. Clear mahogany, thin yellow head. Roasted malt and chestnut flavor. Sessionable, yet lacking in flavor.

Sample at the "Beer Tasting on the Front Porch". Pours dark brown with reddish highlights. Medium light tan head that recedes to a film eventually, and spotty lacing. Aroma of sour fruit and malt. Medium body with a tart mouth-puckering fruit flavor along with some earthy malt. The finish is fruity with a yeast and sour fruit aftertaste. Not sure what is going on with this one but it is not enjoyable.

Very good looking beer. Nice amber color. Taste is a bit on the sweet side, which was unexpected. Rated 8/29/02

Supposedly retired, bottles and draft have been appearing everywhere in my area. Perhaps the beer has been revived. Draft: Clear amber, no head. Ever so slight DMS and otherwise non-aromatic. Hay, cereal grain flavor with a touch of vanilla. Tinny at midpalate. Pleasantly bitter on the palate, good mouthfeel. Not a bad beer and much better than I remember when I had it pre-RB years ago.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear golden color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of grassy hops and caramel. Taste is hay, bready notes and a grassy hop finish. Fairly crisp and clean. Medium bodied. I was a little afraid of this bottle as these guys used to have horrible quality control issues, but thankfully they seemed to have moved passed them, if this bottle is any indication. Good news.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small head. Aroma is caramel malts and slight notes of chocolate I detected. Flavor is roasted, with coca and malts. Overall I thought this was a relatively superb beverage and I’m quite glad one of my co-workers picked this up for me.
