Hazy amber beer. Little white head. Light palate, a little crisp and a little dry. A trace of toffee malt on the nose. Soft toffee malt, a trace of pear and aniseed. Creamy dry malt. Nicely joined up, a deft little beer from Pitfield.

Hazy gold beer, good white head. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Dy malt - a little chalky. Fresh hops - orange and grapefruit but with as much bitterness as there is flavour. Too bitter and too dry but not terrible.

Hazy brown beer. Cinnamon and cloves on the nose! Light dry palate. Dry spice through which cuts orange and cherry fruits - a little tart. Not exactly a subtle Christmas beer! Very spice dominated, in fact if not for the label I would not have known this was a wheat beer.

Pigs Ear. Cloudy brown beer. Sour dry beer. Sour malt, dry sour bittering hop, sour fruit. Dry finish. The worst of the Mare Street beers by a long way. Very disappointing.

Clear very dark brown beer. Thick biscuit coloured head. Light semi soft palate, dry. Dry dark malt, quite licorice. Undertone of spicy dentyne bubblegum and a trace of banana. Finishes dry with a tiny bit of hop fruit coming through. Light and tasty but a little overdry.

(Cask at Euston Tap, Euston, London, 22 April 2012) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, cocoa, coffee, liquorice and hints of ashes and tar. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness and a generous cocoa bitterness. Very tasty with a lovely chocolate character. Excellent beer.

Bottle 500ml. @ [ T.S.H.R.B.G.S.C.S.M.T (The Second Handrup RateBeer Gathering Special Cider Sake Mead Tasting) - Ebeltoft ].Clear medium to dark amber colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, light honey, tart fruit - berry notes. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet, light light acidic and light bitter with a average to long duration, tart, cheese, caramel, sweet honey notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20120415]

On tap at the Euston Tap. Opaque black - brown beer, tidy tan head. Smooth palate, a little dry. A sprinkle of fine carbonation. Smooth dry dark malt, tangy with a streak of bitter coffee. Dark chocolate, well buried. Whisper of pin. Dry finish with dark malt bitterness. Okay.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours black with a small, bubbly beige head. Aroma holds modest roast and some bitter dark chocolate, along with subtle burnt grass notes. Flavor is pretty nice, plenty of roast, some smoke, ham, soil, understated cocoa, minerals. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty dry and roasty to finish with enough sugar to keep it from being overly dry. Some baking cocoa, salty minerals, burnt wood, earth, lingering roast. A very decent beer from Pitfield. Certainly one of the better ones I’ve had from the brewery.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours clear, dull gold with a tight, white foam head. Aroma holds a bit of caramel and overripe fruits. Flavor is medium sweet with toasty malts, toasty sugar, caramel and strong alcohol. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish with some golden raisins, dry toast, light grains, light earthy bitterness, hard alcohol (vodka?), leaves and toasty sugar. Fairly one-dimensional. Nothing special.
