Description
The Atlantic Brewing Company began as Acadia Brewing in 1990. At first the brewery was located inside the Lompoc Cafe in downtown Bar Harbor and had a maximum capacity of just one barrel at a time. Within a few years the demand for our beers had grown so much that we moved the brewery two doors down from the restaurant and increased our capacity to seven-barrel batches. However, by 1998, we had outgrown that facility as well and so we moved again – this time to our current location on the Knox Road. Our estate brewery was built on the grounds of a 19th century Maine farmstead, that employs native vegetation and local stonework.

Atlantic Brewing Company has created a site to develop new and exciting small batch beers only seven barrels at a time. This pilot facility allows fellow brewers from around the state, country, and world to collaborate on unique recipes and formulations in a shared environment. These brews, together with Atlantic small batch beer, are offered in a tasting room setting. Flights, large pours, and growlers are available for purchase at the bar.

This brew is a cherry cola color with a medium light tan head. Thin lacing that sticks to the glass pretty well. The aroma is very nutty, along with some malt and caramel. Thin at times and fairly smooth with a bit of a smoked character. Nutty and sweet malt flavor is decent but short-lived. Mildly hoppy finish. A decent session beer.

Hazy, murky orange body, medium off-white head. Blueberry aroma is a bit stronger than in other similar beers I’ve sampled. Tart blueberry body with little else of note. That said, the blueberry flavor in this beer seems to be more fully-developed than in other examples I’ve tried. I’m a fan of blueberries, but they have a very limited, predictable role in beer.

Thanks to cmaruschak for the trade. I can say with pretty good certainty that this is the best Dry Stout I have had. If Guinness tasted like this I probably never would have branched out to new beers. Pours virtually black with a thick and foamy beige head. Thin lacing. Nice aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted nuts. Rich and smooth body with a flavorful blend of coffee, cocoa, malt and hops. The finish is bittersweet chocolate and hops. Well done.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. This brew is a dark brown color that lets quite a bit of light in. Medium dark beige head and fair lacing. Aroma of burnt malt and coffee. Medium-bodied with a strong roasted coffee character, with some malt and hops flavor. Decent balance, but lacking a little in the flavor department. The finish is lightly bitter coffee. Decent overall.

2000 vintage: Red copper ale without head. Grape and honey aroma, with light hops. Sweet sweet malt and honey with dryish hops and alcohol vapours, with notes of prunes. Very sharp hops and alcohol mouthfeel, but not complex, more in your face.7-4-7-3-14 2001 vintage: Lighter coloured than 2000. Light pruney malt aroma. Sweet malt and restrained hops, with a more balance alcohol mouthfeel. Better than 2000. 8-4-8-4-15 Un gros merci a Dumdum!

Bottle. Rich amber color with a big off-white head. Just a touch of blueberry aroma and malt. Fruit and malf flavor, but not refreshing in taste. Slight astringency and harshness.

Bottle. Black beer with a big beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, toffee, brown sugar - smells wonderful. Full body tastes slightly roasty, nutty, some chocolate. I’ll agree with the not harsh but grainy comment. Very easy to drink, but with a big body. Nice balance.

Sampled at marinaro500’s post-Thanksgiving gathering, provided by gulp. Hazy orange-yellow body, thin off-white head. Super sweet aroma, floral and nectary with plenty of clover honey. Big alcohol in the body with a touch of soy and yeast, very nectary and sweet. Reminded me of chewing at the base of red clover petals as a kid to taste the nectar.

Another nice beer brought to marinaro500’s post-Thanksgiving gathering by gulp. Deep red-brown body, thin/medium light tan head. Roasted malt aroma with dry chocolate and burnt brown sugar (this is a dry stout?). Sweet chocolate body with a touch of coffee, caramel and brown sugar. Had a bready toasty middle-of-the-sip character. Relatively thin-bodied. Tasty.

Bottle Pours a fairly clear dark brown with a large foamy light tan head settling down maintaining thick spotty lacing. Aroma is a bit unusual sour hoppy note with some chocolate and dark malts. Flavors are dry sour and bitter. Metallic and astringent. Feel is thin and carbonation is lively. Trailer is a burnt papery woody taste.
