Description
Hidden away behind the Black Bull in Coniston is the
Coniston Brewing Company.

This outstanding brewery, run by Ian Bradley, is where Bluebird Bitter is made. This 3.6% session beer won Supreme Champion Beer of Britain 1998 at the Great British Beer Festival Olympia London and has continued to be awarded accolades of recent years.

To the pure waters of the Coniston hills - add the finest Challenger hops and wonderfully roasted pale and crystal malts.
Allow the Coniston Brewing Company to use all their skill and instinctive know-how to create what must be described as the finest fully matured cask conditioned Ales.

Draft at Birch & Barley courtesy of solidfunk, thanks! Dark maroon brown color, small tan head. Aroma of cocoa and coffee. Taste has milk chocolate, coffee grounds. Light body. OK.

Sampled from bottle @ THT November. Brown color, small off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, leaves, raisins, a hint of caramel, a hint of smoke. Average body, decent carbonation.

Bottle shared. Pours brown with a tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Copper caramel brown, clear, frothy off white head, some lacing
Aroma of brown caramel malts, some toasted malt, dab of yeast, soft brown leaves, soft hedgerow fruits
Taste of fruity caramel malts, bit nutty, dab of soft toffee, dab of earthy hops, mellow toasted brown malts, soft hops, quite malty
Palate - soft carb, medium body, soft bitter sweet, good balanced palate. Finish as main flavour, fruity caramel malts, soft toasted malts
Overall - Nice traditional brown bitter, quite decent

Bottle. Dark ruby maroon color, medium of white head. Aroma of toasted fruity caramel. Taste is earthy caramel.

Bottle. Nose is biscuit, cereal, light spice touch of berry. Taste is cereal, light bitterness, biscuit, touch of pepper and spice leading to earth and soft floral tones. The mouthfeel is light and suitable for a session beer. This is that rarest of things, a good quality traditional session bitter with taste and body which is available from supermarkets. It’s pretty much as good as it gets from mainstream traditional British bitter (which is a bit damming really). Interesting to note the American reviews here are better than the UK ones.... Perhaps we are taking it for granted...

Aroma: Malt, citrus.
Body: Medium body, low carbonation.
Flavour: Malt, citrus, some fruit.

Cask at the Watermill, Ings. Pours light gold with a small head. Aroma is eggy straw and farts. Taste is sweet straw and lemon. A little egg on the finish.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours a pale golden, nose is dull toffee, marzipan, taste is sweet, dry, light fruit.
