Hand-pulled pint in a random pub just off the A1 up in Northumberland on 23rd Oct 2014. Clear, bright, golden amber with a wispy white head that stayed a while. Nice blend in the nose and taste, malts first on both senses, light and semi-sweet but slightly stronger than the floral and fruity hops. Mild bitter finish to a well balanced brew that I really enjoyed: in good condition too.

Cask @ pub, Wooler. Dark brown colour, creamy foam. Unbalanced beer, aroma of roasted malts with hints of caramel and coffee, also sour notes. Not very good.

Cask @ Leggers Beer Festival, Dewsbury. Hazy dark brown, no head. Has a soapy dark roasted malt, although not the most pleasant of combinations despite being very light in this respect. Suggestions of egg in its aroma and taste!

Sampled @ GBBF. Opaque black color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, a hint of roast, earthy dry bitterness. Average body, low to average carbonation.

Cask @ The Talbot Hotel, Burnley. Golden with a very thin head. Has an acute malty nose and fairly malty taste that’s more balanced with hops. It’s here there’s more of a floralness that lingers a while in the palate. Medium bitterness.

Cask @ GBBF14. Smooth and pale start. Not much deepness, not too intense. The aftertaste has malt there, not too dry, a bit boring sweetish-malty brew!

Cask at the Sun hotel, Warkworth. Pours clear amber, foamy white head. Aromas are toffee and raisins. Taste is sweet. Finishes with more light toffee and red fruit. Ok.

Hand-pulled pint in The Cock Hotel, Wellington Shropshire on 16th May 2014. Pours a clear light amber to old gold colour, the white head soon dissipated to a thin covering and lacing. Dry from the start, yet it has a caramel and toffee apple feel to both it’s aroma and taste. I tried to like it, but struggled. Nothing wrong, just a strange feel to the brew throughout.

Brewed for the 23rd April each year (Saint George’s Day). Hand-pulled half-pint in the excellent Crown Inn, Oakengates on 24th April 2014. Light amber body with a good white head of foam. The aroma and taste have a good semi-bitter hop front with the light malts arriving a little later: a very easy to drink blend of flavours. I was sadly on my way from a funeral to the wake, otherwise a lot more than a half would have been taken!
