Oily black with a thin beige head. On the scale of Aussie Stouts I have had, I did not enjoy this one as much as Mountain Goat or Cooper's, mostly because of the strong alcohol flavor that was present while drinking. It was not as apparent in the aroma, but it really snapped me to attention on my first sip. There was also a little coffee flavor in there but it was like a weed under a big tree struggling for sunlight. The aftertaste is what intrigued me the most because for some reason it reminded me of some of the better Belgians like Westy and Rochefort. The mixture of grains, alcohol and fruit was remniscent of those fine Ales.

Almost black in colour. Smokey, fruity aroma. Full- to medium bodied. Roasty with a hint of licorice and coffee, and a salty bitter finish. This is a big, complex and flavourful stout. Yumm.

The distinctive character of Australian stout - rich, tar-like, strong, fruity, is evidenced here.
