Description
Based in Long Marton, near Appleby, Tirril Brewery offers fine traditional ales, refreshingly crisp pilsners & a range of spirits. The first brew was delayed for a month, by the arrival of our daughter India. It turned out by chance that the current Tirril Brewery opened exactly 100 years after Siddle’s the last brewery in Tirril had closed….

500ml bottle from Booths. Pale chestnut colour with lasting off white head. Best bitter aroma, nice fudge malt aroma and flavour. Toasty, nice fruit too. some cherry and plum. Bit of choc, cherry flavour runs through it. Quite impressed. Malt still a bit thin due to pasteurisation.

Cask at GBBF 2006. Copper with lasting off white head. Yeast/hop aroma. Hop is pretty good. Not overly full in mouth, but the citrus is soft lime on the end. Citrus fruits are good. Bottle. Copper colour with thin beige head. Bit of butter, some earthy hop, some toffee. Earthy hop grows throughout. Toffee is good too. Entertaining bitter, interesting if not amazing. 2.9/5.0

Bottled. Deep golden, clear bitter with a white head. Weak, malty, slightly roasted and sweet aroma, with caramel, malt and hops in the flavor. Too low on the hops. The body is rather thin, and the bitterness in the finish didn’t suit my taste. (060720)

Cask gravity Notts BF 05. Chestnut beer. Bubbly beige head. Acidic appley nose, more apple and some dark malt in mouth with some choc. Finish has more apple/choc finish. Bit odd and lacks direction. Bit of toffee/caramel 500ml bottle from Booths. Chestnut with lasting beige head. Choc, some malt fruit, some dry malt on aroma. Bit empty on mouth. Some pepper hop on end. Pateurised best bitter with some malt character. 535312
