Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Keg at Brewdog Waterloo. Aroma combines the citrus and the cask for a cough drops stylee. Opaque dark amber gold. Thin foamy white head. The barrel dominates the flavour. However the citrus and soft malt notes are also in there. Medium bitter with a sweeter side. Honey makes a late appearance. Medium bodied. Slick. Flat-soft carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. This hits the spot. Also would be great for a cold.

Keg at BD Inverurie. It pours jet black with a dissipating off -white head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, charred vibes, umami, vinous, white wine, gooseberry, melon, poached pear, vanilla,.honeyed grain, mellow whiskey vibes and chocolate. The taste is smooth, bitter - sweet, unctuous, oily, dark chocolate, umami, liquorice, ink, charred oak,l burnt toast, coffee, vinous, spicy whiskey, toasted nut and dull alcohol with a charred finish. Above average body and light carbonation. Quite an interesting offering. Robust and unique.

Dark brown with a short frothy head. Aroma of light whiskey malt. Flavour is wood whiskey, hints of red wine, not very stout in flavour. Warm spicy whiskey finish.

Keg at Brewdog Lothian Road. Pours clear red brown with no real head. Seems to be the same beer as the previous correspondents have had, but from the beer descriptions it drinks more like the twisted porter. Any road up, there's chocolate and booze going on, something nutty too. An enjoyable flight overall.
