Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Bottle shared in Canary Wharf - cheers to Fergus. Pours clear red-brown with a small, foamy topping. Moderately tart, with brown bread, a few berries. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately warming to finish, with light old wood notes, more berries, nips of toffee. Pretty good stuff.

Can from beerclub. Black with a minimal head. Aroma of chocolate malt. Flavour is bitter chocolate malt, warm booze chocolate, whiskey finish. I should like this more, maybe too much whiskey and not enough stout.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, short pale tan head. Smooth palate, slightly soft, modest fine carbonation. Thin dark malts, a light and tangy dark chocolate. Very mild bourbon barrel fruits. Light finish. Okay, I get it, not everyone wants a big chewy in yer face BA stout but even knowing that I feel like I want to tell the people whom this beer may appeal to, to just try the bigger stuff and live a little.
