Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a burnt golden orange/slight copper color with a little white semi-foamy head. Light ringy lace here and there.
The aroma had some citrus pulp sweetness, some pear and a little bit of grapefruit pulp and rind. Slight grassiness.
The flavor leaned sweet at first and then developed a light bitterness. No aftertaste but a light yet blended citrus to grapefruit pulpy finish.
The feel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a tad under with a good sessionability about it. Good carbonation with the ABV feeling as directed by the brewer.
Overall, pretty good Jarrylo hopped IPA that I could come back to if I could get it. Might even be the best one by Ascension I ever had.

The appearance was a fairly dark red almost brown color with a light tan level foamy head that just slid off at a good pace. Stringy sliding lace.
The aroma had some sweet nutty to caramel malts at the forefront. Coconut is far underneath along with the maple.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side of the previously mentioned aromas. No aftertaste but a semi-sweet nutty to caramel finish.
The feel was between light and medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Low carbonation was felt. ABV felt good.
Overall, sounded like a fantastic idea behind the beer, but wasn’t executed too far above par for me. I will say solid and I think a little tweaking could make it a some day \"whale.\"

The appearance was a dark brown color with a slim cap of a little white head. Slid off into the beer pretty quick, no lace.
The aroma centered around some sweet milk chocolate, some mocha, light nuts - somewhat sweet with a little bit of Nutella-like smooth sweetness.
The flavor leaned into the sweetness of the prior mentioned flavors. Aftertaste was extremely smooth sweet. Sweet chocolate/Nutella-like aftertaste and finish.
The feel was between light and medium bodied and for a sweet stout had some sessionability about it. ABV felt as projected. Pretty smooth along my tongue.
Overall, most of these \"sweet stouts\" I try tend to be dessert beers, and this one slightly is but perhaps due to the lower ABV and \"sessionable\" sort of light feel to it. This wouldn’t be a bad choice for a late Summer’s late afternoon session.

The appearance was dark amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Speckled lace.
The aroma leaned towards the malty sweet side, some nuttiness, light grassy hops and a little bit of butterscotch.
The flavor seemed to bring out the hops a bit more, nice bitter presence but not too much. Butterscotch came back but seemed quite blended. Not much of any aftertaste, but the finish was a combined earthy to butterscotch sweetness.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty nice amber ale worthy of having again if I could get it.

The appearance was a dark brown color with a nice looking finger’s worth of tan foamy head. Gentle roaming lace.
The aroma had some sweet and roasty nuts escaping through some milk chocolate to run into some light earthy hoppy tones, not too bitter, just there.
The flavor carried the sweet into the roast and brought in a little bit of dark chocolate. Nicely blended aftertaste and finish/
The feel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Somewhat smooth along my tongue.
Overall, well worthy brown ale if I could get it again.

22 ounce bottle into snifter glass; Batch #1, bottled in 11/2016. Bottle #184. Pours fairly crystal clear deep ruby red color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, cherry, berry, pear, red apple, spicy rye whiskey, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, cocoa, roasted nuts, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and rye whiskey barrel notes; with great strength. Very slightly boozy in the aromas as it warms. Taste of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, cherry, berry, pear, red apple, spicy rye whiskey, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, cocoa, roasted nuts, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, cherry, berry, apple, spicy rye whiskey, toasted oak, brown bread, light cocoa/nuttiness, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and rye whiskey barrel flavors; with an awesome malt and whiskey/oak spiciness balance, with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from rye whiskey/oak spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, lightly silky/sticky/tannic, and slightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden; a small pleasant warming with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged English barleywine! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and rye whiskey barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Pretty much perfect balance of malt/yeast complexity; outstanding barrel presence and integration, without being overly boozy, tannic, or drying. A highly enjoyable offering.

750 ml bottle into snifter; batch #1, bottled in 9/2016. Bottle #52. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a thin light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a ring of lace that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, fudge, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, smoke, char, raisin, plum, fig, date, and roast/toast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, rye whiskey barrel, and light fruity yeast notes; with great strength. A bit of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Taste of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, fudge, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, smoke, char, raisin, plum, fig, date, and roast/toast/oak earthiness. light roast/char bitterness and rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, fudge, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, brown bread, light dark fruit, and roast/toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, rye whiskey barrel, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and rye whiskey/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast bitterness and rye/oak spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Low carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/rich, and lightly slick/chalky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden, mildly warming with minimal barrel booziness for 10.8%. Overall this is a fantastic rye barrel aged imperial stout. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, rye whiskey barrel, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV, and despite the very low carbonation. I think I got a leaking cap under the wax due to the discoloration I saw when removing it, but it did not limit drink-ability; and likely made the mouthfeel more silky and rich feeling. Fantastic rye barrel complexity and balance; without being overly boozy, tannic, or drying. A highly enjoyable offering.

22 oz bottle from the brewery. Pours a deep murky red amber with an off-white head. Oaky aroma, whiskey, vanilla. Flavor also quite oaky, whiskey, maple syrup, vanilla. Red apple and molasses with dark fruit. Not perfect, but some really darn good flavors in here.
