Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.
Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

Stubby at a bottle share, watery brown, hardly any head. What you expect. Not great. Booze and orange and flabby malt. 6 2 6 2 9

One last one from last year in the back of the fridge. It's been cold pretty much since I purchased it so it's held up pretty much the same as fresh.

12oz bottle from my brother. Dark brown pour, thin tan head. Aroma brings maple syrup, roasty malts, light chocolate. Taste adds gingerbread to the mix, sweet, chocolate and maple notes. Smooth and creamy.

12oz bottle, from the Big Book of GBS. Poured a pitch black color. Aroma was big chocolate, cinnamon, hot pepper. Flavor was actually really big dried fruits, sweet peppery heat, cinnamon, vanilla with a little bit of bourbon wood. Really pleasant stuff. I really really liked this one. Not a whole lot of heat here, more like a light peppery dark Mexican hot chocolate. Really good stuff,

Wow Really delicious gingerbread stout base with a pleasant spicy pepper. Light chocolate, dried fruit is huge in this one. Solid.

12oz bottle, from the Big Book of GBS. I hesitated quite a bit with this one. I'm not a huge fan of rum or rum in beers so I approached this with a lot of skepticism. Perhaps it's the Apple Brandy that really smooth this out, I don't know, but this was really tasty. I got lots of apple, brandy, fresh squeezed orange in this one. Allspice finish. Not really sure I'd call this a stout - this is way more like a golden ale, looks more like a red ale or a bit like a barleywine.
