My wife bought a six pack of this - I can’t believe I’ve never rated it - clear dark brown, nearly black - dark tan head that shrinks to a thin lace - a lot of roast in the nose, along with a health dose of dark chocolate character and some coffee-like bitterness - body is fairly smooth, though the relatively high carbonation undermines this a little bit - flavor is lightly roasty and moderately bitter - bittersweet finish of mild baker’s chocolate - lingering bitterness in the finish - I like it okay.

Roasted unmalted barley nose. Mahogany, medium yellow head. Grainy and roasty, no chocolate, just the faintest hint of baker’s cocolate on the back end, and I might be imagining that. I’m not terribly impressed with the liquid from this brewery, despite the fact that the people there are cool as shit.

Roasted unmalted barley aroma, fresh split wood. Cola brown, clear, thin yellow head. Astringent, little body. Grainy, but with a lightly sweet tobacco and walnut finish. I’ve had much better examples of the style, but this had its charms. Generous rating.

Tap @ Fort Collins Brewery. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the normal Double Chocolate, so I’m not overly optimistic on this one. Pours a black appearance with a light brown head. Actually a delicious, roasted but not burnt black coffee, thick cocoa, a touch herbal aroma. A touch grainy mouth feel. A bit acidic/fruity quality in the flavor from the coffee with additional notes of cocoa, milk, and roast. This one does seem a fair amount better than its sibling.

Tap @ Fort Collins Brewery. Pours a fairly clear golden orange appearance with a white head. Toasted malty, somewhat herbal hoppy, light citrusy aroma. Cracker, toasted pale malty, grainy, straw, a bit herbal, light citrusy flavor. Ok.

Tap @ Fort Collins Brewery. Pours a hazy maroon amber appearance with a tan head. Dark fruity, plum, somewhat floral, bitter hoppy aroma. Fairly bitter, toasted, caramel malty, a bit soapy, floral hoppy flavor. Not all that bad.

Tap @ Fort Collins Brewery. Pours a fairly clear golden appearance with a white head. Burnt smoky, charcoal grill, a bit meaty, light caramel aroma. Burnt woody, chewy char, light caramel flavor. Not bad but not very inspiring either.

opaque black. Thin off white head, kind of soapy. Chocolate malt, piney hops. Taste is a lot of bitter pine all in my mouth. Body and texture is thin. My first glass was better than the second. Slightly below average.

Thanks Chris! Enjoying in a wine glass. Deep brown amber...pretty hazy. 1 finger head fades fast. Very piney scent. Very chewy taste! Super chewy, petty and hints of oak and brown sugar. Medium body. Incredibly bitter! Too malty, too chewy, too bitter. Lacks balance. Sorry guys.
