Brouwerij Hoegaarden
Commercial Brewery
in Hoegaarden,
Flemish Brabant,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Owned by
Anheuser-Busch InBev
Established in 1965
Since 1985, the brand has been part of Artois brewery, which provided fresh capital, after the fire. After the takeover, the recipe was changed to appeal to a wider audience and save on raw materials. The Artois brewery, which had already been absorbed into InBev (nowadays Aneuser-Busch InBev) for some time, decided in 2006 to close the brewery and move production to Jupille. On September 10, 2007, it was announced that Hoegaarden would once again be brewed in Hoegaarden. The brewery in Jupille didn't manage to imitate the typical taste of Hoegaarden...

33 cl bottle at Gullivers, Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel bar and lounge. A golden to amber cloudy pour with a thick, hardly diminishing, fine lacing, snow-white head. Aroma is green grass, oranges, a tad of honey, some Vicks balm, iron filings, a tinge of vanilla. Low carbo, slightly sweet onset. Rather heavy and full-bodied (not a thirst quencher at all.) Great bitterness in the long-lasting finish, with renewed hints of orange.

Can from Lidl Supermarket, Chadderton. Golden-orange with a head. There's a pretty good styling here with mild spices, some banana and lemon available in this obvious 'wit' - it basically just lacks some depth which the removed alcohol content would otherwise give.
Gift, maar toch wel leuk deze bieren weer eens te proeven

33 cl can @ hotel room, Riga. BBE 18.02.2023 Aroma has lemon, orange and yeasty tones. So far no big difference with the original. Flavour has sweet fruitiness, mild plastic tones. Feels artificial. Finishes with cardboard. Stuffy finish, drinkability could be better. Decent.

Appearance: hazy reddish ochre with a decent pinkish head. Aroma: raspberries, wheat malt, spicy hints. Taste: rather dry, fruity, bready. Notable hop. A soapy hint. Mouth feel: light to medium body, average to lively carbonation. Summary: OK within the style.
