28/7/2023. Keg at the 33rd Ipswich Beer and Cider Festival. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, rum, toffee, rum truffle, wood, brown sugar. Medium sweetness, light to moderate roasted bitterness. Quite full bodied, creamy, soft carbonation. Really good, just shaded the brandy version by being a little less sweet.

Cask-conditioned at the Pelican, Gloucester May 2023. Golden in colour and cloudy, with a moderately-sized, white, head. Ripe tropical fruits, sweetish malts, grassy hops, some sharpness before a dryish finish. Good.

(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 25 Nov 2022) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee, liquorice and nuts. Malty, roasted taste with notes of milky coffee, dark chocolate, black bread, liquorice, roasted nuts and a balanced roasty bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made stout, with a nutty touch. Very nice.

Gravicask, 1/3 pint at GBBF Winter '23. Shared with Finn. Deep black body, lacing rings down the glass, from a fading beige head. Inviting smell of mildly roasted chocolate malts. Vanilla chocolate to the forefront of the flavour character, biscuit support, and lactose backbone. Smooth chocolate finish, rather sweet. Tasty, just a tad too sweet. (Burton upon Trent, 17.02.2023).

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Light yellow/gold and very hazy with a fluffy pillow of white head. Aroma of cantaloupe, grapefruit, a little bit of bubblegum. The taste is a bit muddled, some dirty notes to the fore, setting into a melony sweetness. Rounded body with very soft carbonation. Not one of TBM's outstanding brews but it's something different from their core range, and their beers are almost always worth a go.
