Bottle from Tesco and drunk on a train. Malty best bitter. Bizarre to call it an ipa. I mean its got a little milk chocolate even. Actually smells a little oxidised. The back label says a pale ale with complex roasted malt. Is this a black bitter? Strange. Did I like it? No. Was it terrible? Not quite. Odd.

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear amber with a creamy yellow-beige head. The nose holds dry, semi-dark fruits and bread malts. Tastes pretty good, with more dried, semi-dark fruits, a bit of maple syrup, bread, dates, hints of toffee and cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Finishes with nicely rounded fruits, dry bread, mild balancing grainy and earthy bitterness, some berries and toasted toffee. Good stuff.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is smooth and airy, decent fine carbonation. Nice malts here, light creamy sweetness and distinct toffee and nuts. Mellow fruits and dried fruits on the back end, little orange, Semi dry finish. Moderate bitter linger. Nicely done, very flavoursome and drinkable.

Cask at JDW Briar Rose; dark chestnut brown pour with a creamy beige head, dark fruit and roast malt aroma, taste has treacle, a hint of coffee, some plain chocolate, slight bitter finish.

Cask handpull at Metropolitan Spoons. Very deep brown colour lasting beige head. It’s quite a tasty dark beer with plenty of dark fruity malts and just a hint of sourness. Just very pleasant. Good on an autumnal day to warm you. Decent.

Gravity dispense at the Happy Man Autumn BF, 10/10/14. Mahogany brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is candied fruits, caramel, light spice. Taste comprises biscuit notes, dark fruit rinds, spice, toffee, earthy tones. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a bittering sign off. Decent.

Cask at the moon under water jdw, Watford. Clear ruby red orange coloured pour with a lasting creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet coffee, biscuit nutty malts, hint of burnt sugar and caramel. Flavour is composed of caramel, tangy apple, fermenting fruit, hint of souring. Palate is medium body, moderate carbonation. Somewhat prickly on the tongue. OK but a little bit of sour is off putting.
