Description
Vleesmeester Brewery saw the light in 2010, when 3 friends –after years of frequenting beer festivals- decided to make their own beers. We bought ourselves a starter kit, and so it began.
Some people in our surroundings wondered what we were doing in the kitchen and wanted to come take a look. Whilst crushing the malt they thought we were grinding it in a meat mill. So they started calling us “Vleesmeester” which means meatmaster in Dutch. From then on we called ourselves “Vleesmeester Brewery”, a lay-outer and friend of ours made a logo, and “Vleesmeester Brewery” was born.
Fascinated by the less known beers out of the craft beer scene we started experimenting. Our preference went to hoppy beers and our firstborns were mostly IPA’s and Russian Imperial Stouts. One better than the other, by trial and error.
Along the way, the people, who weren’t into hoppy beers at first, started to find appreciation for what we were doing. In 2014 the guys from the Antwerp based band “Your Highness” asked us to make a beer to serve at the release of their album, this beer became “Hoogheid”.

Thank you! 330 ml. bottle sampled @ ZBF 2016. Hazy orange, only lightly hazy, tanned head. Nose is bitter floral hops, indeed bitter flowers, light caramel, tad yeast. Taste is bitter floral, dry, light plaster yeast, rather dry, low yeast, bitter flowers, leading into substantially bitter finish that is a big medicinal almost; Interesting profile, lightly bitter medicinal profile is a bit challenging for me & there is some chalky yeast. Overall still a nice, interesting beer that separates itself from the crowd maybe not radically so but it does.

Sample @ Zythos’16, courtesy of and shared with the RB Belgian crew.

Batch 2 & future: tweaked beer. Sampled draft @ ZBF 2016. Clear orange, creamy tanned heads. Nose is lovely pine resin, mango hops, rich hops with low milky yeast & touch caramel that balances the whose lovely. Taste is oily mango, pine, resin, oily herbs, rich lovely hops balanced with some complimentary yeast which has been really tuned down, oily, herbs, pine, light caramel. Oily & milky body; Really nice hoppy beer, not your classical IPA but a really nice hop forward beer; Great work. [Batch 1: Draft glass @ Billie’s Bierkafetaria. I have tried the old version of this beer & it wasn’t too good but it was also brewed at ’t Hofbrouwerijke where everything gets infected etc. (truly one of the worst breweries out there!) I have blamed that brewery for which I have no love. This new version is brewed at Anders! Which makes certainly decent enough beers with no issues. Deep amber with a big creamy off-white head. Nicely lacing. Nose is milky white sugar base, big milk, white sugar, candy, sorbet,… Taste is huge on milky sweet white sugar, milky, candy, sugar, overly Belgian, overly Belgian yeast, sugar, milky with some sweet orange & orange peel hop. Very milky body, white sugary,…. Very excessive in these things for me, the USA style & USA hops are totally muted by white sugar & very milky yeast notes. Glad to try it in this version but it has way too much white sugar & milky notes for me. The whole is a bit too much disappointing for considering everything.]
