Description
Let’s raise a glass and toast the way it should be - local beer brewed by local beer lovers using local ingredients, including fresh water from our very own Hertfordshire borehole.

No fuss, no pretension - just passion and a year’s hard work at our nearby farm to brew ales we, and hopefully the people of St. Albans, can be proud of.

Here’s to radically better beer!

Half, 4.1 % abv, gravicask from the stage bar at St Albans Beer Festival. Unclear amber-brown body. Fragile lacing from a diminishing whitehead. Smell of grainy malts and perfumed hops. Malt-fruity flavours, rather jam-like. Leafy hops to the ending. Smooth on the swallow. Thin to medium bodied. Just alright (St Albans 25.09.2014).

Cask from the brewer’s own stans at St Albans market. Golden-amber. Quite similar to the Classic English Ale I’d had from the same brewer just before; there’s the same earth and twigs up front. However, this one is less aggressively bitter, and has some orange and lemon coming through. Maybe not as full-flavoured, but I possibly marginally prefer it. It’s still not great, though, I’m afraid.

From the brewer’s own stand at St Albans market. Deep bronze with a negligible head and a light fizz. Decently rich and resinous in the mouth. The flavours are very traditional English, with earth and twigs and bread. Long lasting bitter finish. Just as the name implies, this is beer as it used to be before those darn Yankees invented all those thar aroma hops and late hopping. It also reminds you why we were so eager to adopt American-style beers...
