Handpull cask at the Cellar, Chester. Light gold, mostly clear with a smattering of white head. Getting notes of lemon zest and berry, fresh grass on the nose. Taste is nicely balanced from the outset, although the finish turns very bitter. Its has a few twists and turns without losing character and maintaining focus. Light, creamy body, very little carbonation. Well done.

Rochdale Easter Ale Trail 2026, Beer#2. A triple in The Baum starting with the clear blonde single hopped ale, which is hoppy and fruity in equal measure but never too stated. It is a very orderable session brew though

Wigan Beer Festival 2026, Beer#12. Golden coloured ale, some of that style too, with the hop exuding a small sweetness. It has a fair bitterness, but is ultimately a hoppy dominant brew as a beer with a single hop name might expected to be.

Ernest Vineyards produce a wine called 'The Jester'. This all hop named beer is clear deeper golden coloured, looking good. Its hoppiness is on the bland side but its drinkability is fine, and sessionable. Light bitterness.

Cask at Wigan Central, Wigan. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized foamy cream head and good lacing. There’s a slight smokiness in the aroma, which otherwise has roasted malts, liquorice and hints of vanilla. Roasted malts to the fore again in the mouth, where it is slightly bitter. Flavour of traditional hops, liquorice and traces of dark fruits and chocolate. Later on there are hints of humbug sweets and cola. Bitterness lasts into the finish. This is a decent beer – but I’m not sure what is “US style” about it ?

It's estimated over 250,000 Federal workers have lost their jobs since President Trump took office for his second term. Fruity golden pale ale, decent hoppiness.
