On tap at The Made Inn Ashford 4.8% Black beer lasting tan head Salted xqramel wafer aroma. Bit too milky for me in the mouth. aroma is a chocolate wafer biscuit a bit sweet. too milky for me.

29/1/2022. Can shared with ITFC boys. Bought direct from the brewery. Pours clear pale amber copper with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of golden syrup, brown sugar, toffee, biscuit. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, sligthly metallic. Medium to full body, sticky texture, average to soft carbonation. Warming alcohol finish. Pretty decent.

Every now and then you come across beers that you anticipated liking every much, only to find when you actually taste them, that you fdon’t like them at all ! This is one such case. Anyways, cask from Crewe Dog, Crewe (at 5.5%). Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small cream head. Not much of an aroma, just some hints of chocolate. In the mouth the overwhelming flavour is VERY bitter oranges, which swamps everything else. Unfderneath there are roast malts and hints of chocolate, alcoholic strength, aniseed and other spicese. Finish is spoicy – too spicy for me. It’s not a bad beer I just didn’t like it.

On tap at Toms Tap & Brewhouse, Crewe. Pours a murky very dark burgundy with a small off-white head and good lacing. You can instantly tell this is a rye beer from the strong aroma. Bread rolls and a smokiness are also there. Rye again to the fore in the mouth, plus general grains, chocolate and dark fruits. Quite bitter in the finish. Nice beer with a decent punch. Incidentally the brewer says this was the first beer he ever brewed commercially.

On tap at Toms Tap & Brewhouse, Crewe. Pours a murky orange with a small white head and good lacing. Bit of a strange aroma with sweet candy to the fore, plus some hints of citrus. Sweet and juicy in the mouth with mango and citrus the main flavours. Later on oranges come through to dominate. Finish is bitter with a stickiness on the tongue. Quite nice but not the sort of beer I would normally go for.

On tap at Tom’s Tap, Crewe. Pours pretty much jet black with minimal cream head. As might be expected, coffee and vanilla vie for supremacy in the aroma. However, dark fruits are the first sensation in the mouth, progressing through coffee and finally vanilla. Roasted amlts can also be detected in the background. Quite bitter in the finish. A decent stout for slowly sipping.
