Cask @ Tap and Can. Clear deep amber with an appealing off-white head. No smoke or flame here, just a nicely presented porter, gentle chocolatey glimpses, easy going amber malt. Light and seshy.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with minimal beige head. Aroma has liquorice and roast malts. In the mouth the texture is a tad watery, and dark fruits are the initial flavour. Later come roast malts, liquorice and plums with hints of vanilla and chocolate. Finish is sweet and fruity. This is rather nice – hides its strength well.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Some vague floral hops and yeast in the aroma, but it doesn’t amount to much. In the mouth it is sweet with a creamy texture. Main flavours are yeast and oranges with some hints of banana. Traces of tropical fruits in the finish. This is OK, but rather bland.

A golden pinkish ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light strawberries, light acidic notes, Epsom salts, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light raspberry jam, light acidity, light mineral notes, pleasant. On tap at Brewdog Liverpool.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours a dark ruby with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. There’s malts and fruitcake in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy with malts and fruitcake (again) plus vanilla. Later on there is some bitterness and hints of raisins. Finish is somewhat dry and fruity. This is quite nice.
