Description
Xtreme Ales is a father and son brewery with Mike & Neil Holmes and commenced production in July 2013. Head brewer Neil had been brewing beer previously for home consumption but this was his first foray into beer production on a larger scale! Our beers started appearing at local pubs and beer festivals. Due to the popularity of our beers we are now expanding with a bigger kit and our passion for real ale continues.

Mike Holmes continued brewing great beers old and new up until early 2020 when finally he decided to take off his wellingtons for the last time and retire. The Xtreme Ales Brewery was purchased on May 4th 2020 by two of the Peterborough based Hunt brothers Martyn and Simon. It continues to be a family run brewery producing many of the great award winning ales as well as a strong portfolio of new recipes the Hunt brothers have brought to the business.

8/10/2021. Cask at the 43rd Bedford Beer and Cider Festival. Pours unexpectedly dark, close to black, with a small bubbly tan coloured head. Hadn’t noticed it was a porter until ordering. Aroma of malt, caramel, custard, chocolate, dark fruits, light rhubarb. Medium sweetness, light to moderate bitterness. Medium body, slight sticky texture, soft carbonation. Sweet, berry pie finish. Pretty decent, probably needed a bit more rhubarb.
