Description
We've spent more years than we care to remember drinking real ale of all styles and flavours. This culminated in us buying our own pub, The Spinners Arms in Cummersdale, Carlisle in 2007 - where we naturally continued our research!

In 2013, we took it a step further and set up a 2.5 barrel microbrewery on site. We outgrew this quite quickly and moved to our current premises, opening a bigger plant in October 2015. We still have The Spinners Arms, it's now our brewery tap with a good range of our beer on the bar at all times!

I did achieve a cultural activity in Carlisle earlier before my current beer tour by visiting their citadel, which they call a castle, although the main building is a Keep. Interesting enough history, mostly about keeping the Mel Gibson types from north of the border out! They might want to cross for this traditional ale, with a great hop-malt-bitter balance. It also has an easy strength.

Bottle from Beer Ambleside. Pale gold with a lasting white head and a fine but aggressive fizz. Generically fruity up front, although it did pup me in mind of Granny Smith apples. Some ginger powder comes through, and then there are floral, twiggy notes in the dry and mildly bitter finish. Not bad for the style.

Bottle from BeerGB. Appearance - golden and a wee bit hazy. White head. Nose - bready, and orange. Taste - breakfast cereal, some light fruit. Palate - light bodied but could have more bitterness given the style. Overall - so so.
