About
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.
On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).
Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.
So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

Borefts. Black with small beige head. Sweet malts and chocolate with red berries, vanilla and a pear kick. Slightly sticky full body. Nice but not great.

Had this at Borefts BF, Bodegraven, Netherlands, Friday 26th September 2014. Warmth from the off, in fact this gers warmer. Smooth but steady, likeable stout. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

@ borefts. Weird pale yellow looking beer. Tastes like gin and tonic, with only a hint of hop and malt. Unpleasently dry and with a nasty taste of grass. Was even hard to finish it.

Tap @ Borefts 2014, small sample. Slight hazy yellow color, short head. Aroma of cucumber, sweet sugar. Bitterish in taste. Unbalanced and weird. Didnt like it.

Had this at Borefts BF, Bodegraven, Netherlands, Friday 26th September 2014. This was truly a shocker. Aroma of pear drops, nail varnish remover and tasted absolutely disgusting, a joke surely? I’ve really, really enjoyed most of the beers from this brewery today but this... well it tastes like glue, it has chemically flavour yeurghh... horrid. A42 4 T2 P1 Ov5. 1.4

Bottle @ hotelroom tasting. Dark brown to black color, medium sized off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts and something else. Haha, totally unable to rate this properly since I got totally distracted by fucking Kenny and Ian. Got to rerate this at some point. The figures are probably correct though. [Original rating: 7-4-7-3-14]. Re-rate November 3rd 2014. Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, some sweetness, slightly alcohol and a lot of liquorice. Taste malts, again quite a lot of liquorice, alcohol, bitter, roast, a hint of coffee and a touch of red fruit, but you’ll have to search for em since the ABV, liquorice and malts are dominant. Warming alcohol finish, medium to full body, oily texture, medium carbonation. Worth a try but a little bit too much imo.
