Medium brown with reddish accent. Bubbly head. This one is keg. Has a chocolatey, fudgey aroma. Fairly rich taste, chocolatey character but with a pretty good amount of hop bitterness. Good dry porter.

Ruby brown, nice colour. Floral, orangey aroma, with just a little bit of darker malt sugars. Sweet, creamy body, really liquoricey flavour. Thick, sticky...yeah I’d like more carbonation, not catching much hop, which kind of surprises me. You know, it’s not bad beer but it simply isn’t working for me.

Cask. Golden-amber, light haze. No sparkler on this one. Assertive hop, leafy grapefruit, lemon balm, very appetizing. Yeah, it’s a bit syrupy, no surprise there, but some nice floral and pithy hop notes, too. Finishes a bit too cloying- gotta keep it light for cask- but not bad.

Cask. Amber-red, vibrant colour slight haze. This had a sparkler but it looked awesome. The fresh ekg dry hops are very evident. Soft body, maybe a bit slick but with a touch of cask acidity . Hit of caramel, getting into toffee. Earthy hop character. Increases in complexity as it goes.

12oz cask pour at Paradiso Dupont. Pours a watery, deep brown with some creamy cream colored head. Nose is very earthy, wet dirt, some dark chocolate, a little soap, some dried lemon peel. Flavor has more of the "India, lemon, dried orange peel, a little leafy veg, malt, bread crust, a little soil, some roasted parsnip. Lightly oily finish.

Draft at the brewery - black pour - kind of like their porter, but with a beefed up dark malt character and a drier, more roasty character - approaches with dry cocoa and some raisin - a little cream sweetness before it dries out, with some roast, light earth, the faintest hint of smoke - dry mineral and coffee finish - pretty solid stout, but the porter should be your go-to dark beer here.

Draft at the brewery - something that I have always loved about Hogshead’s beer when it is at its best is how vibrant and expressive the malt character is and how well it plays with the earthy, musty English ale yeast - that quality is really on display here - lovely mix of dry, earthy, whiskey-like malte character, with a countering cherry sweetness, a mild mineral presence, and a musty yeast character - even on draft, I love this.

5 oz sample draft at Colorado Plus in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The pour is clear brown golden with not too much off white head. The aroma is sweet caramel malt, grass and some earth. The taste is a nice balance of crystal malt, soft honey sweetness and grassiness. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and the lingering sweet earth. Nice.

Tap - an interesting take on an old ale - some toffee and light treacle sweetness makes way for a moderate burton bite and some bright, almost tropical fruit character (melon, mango, citrus) - quite bright and kind of light for the style - slick mouthfeel - finish of melon and mango flesh, bright acids - interesting.
