Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.

in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

Dark garnet color with a nice thick rocky head that really lasts. Complex aroma mainly hoppy/piney but complemented with chocolate and caramel tones. Flavor is very fresh with piney and citric hop flavors. Malts are only slightly underdone for style but this remains a nice and unusually well-hopped dark ale. Goose Island: one of the most under-rated American breweries.

Very nice. Chocolatey, caramelly, and spicy. Nicely balanced with zingy hops. Brown color with red tints. Not full bodied, but still fills the mouth - very satisfying.

Very smooth, and a bit on the sweet side. A good dose of hops in the flavor.

Very hoppy - enjoyable. Citric hoppy (grapefruit, a little orangey). Hops abundant in flavor and aroma. Medium body keeps it well rounded.

Have to re-up this beer. Its previous 3.0 rating was clearly left-field. A re-sampling of it (bottle, 45-50 deg F) revealed a nicely caramelly ale with a bit of spicy and earthy hops around the edges, a balanced hoppy finish. Nice amber color.

Bottle rating (April 2005): Golden colour. Arom is deep hops. Cleansing bitterness, woody, slightly oxidized. Flavours are rather blunt - needs a punch of pale malt or a slap of citrus to come alive.

Tap rating (from March 2000):
Fantastic aroma with big American hops. But they serve this on nitrogen and that just makes the flavours collapse into a jumbled mess. Probably much better on bottle/cask/CO2. Ar 8; Ap 2; F 3; P 2; O 6
