Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.
in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

Geur is zoet, bourbon, hout/tannines, vanille, karamel, iets fruit. Zoet, fruitig, boozy, houtig, bourbon retronasaal. Smaak is volzoet. Vrij hete alcohol in het begin. Medium body. Lange finish. Tja, ik vind het erg lekker.

Bottle drunk 8/11/26.
First whiff is oxidation, a good amount, which isn't so surprising given the filtration/pasteurization and 5 years of age. Thankfully, it steadily decreases as stronger notes of dry, spicy whiskey, lean chocolate, prune and cigar emerge. After 5 minutes or so, I'm not getting any oxidation and only small amounts of prune/raisin. No alcohol noted.
Rich malts remain, thankfully, with no oxidized flavors (or very, very little). And yet it's got a good attenuation to it, with a bit of heft/syrup initially, drying out heavily with the help of excellent whiskey character. To that end, the whiskey character here is phenomenal. Full, rich, yet balanced with no sharp edges. I feel like I can very easily solo this whole bottle quickly, if I'd wanted to. Great balance and dryness with fruitiness and not-too-intense malt remaining on the finish, mixing nicely with the lovely whiskey.
Love CLW's comment that this feels almost more like a barleywine. I think that's what keeps it from being world class for me. Just a bit simple, slightly flaccid and caramelly for a stout.

568ml can. Gift from my wife. Pours a clear gold with a medium, foamy, long lasting, white head that leaves soapy curtains of lace. Mild fruity aroma of grainy wheat malt, orange, peach, alcohol and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of grainy wheat malt, grapefruit peel, pineapple, mango, peach, alcohol and pine resin in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with a slick texture and average to soft carbonation. Boozy heat that burns a bit. Just ok.

Dorada limpia.
