Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.

in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

Aroma of an ipa. A very dark brown beer, the head is tan and thin and laced the glass. First flavor is of hops, followed by the standard brown ale taste, with a good taste of coffee in the finish. Better than I expected.

Light brown. Lots of hops and a little fruit in the aroma. Flavor is pleasant but one dimensional with a weak hop flavor. I was thinking of a weak ipa while drinking this one.

2013 vintage, rated 2017. Dark brown. No head. On the nose, this comes across as being a bit harsh. A touch thin, next to the 2008, and with only a limited sweet taste, dark malts, touch of milk chocolate. Honestly, not that impressive. Finishes with some nice brown sugar notes, though. 4 6 8 4 15 = 3.7

2008 vintage, rated 2017: Dark brown, no head. Aroma has a lot of soy sauce, and a touch of chocolate, and no question the alcohol blasts through. It has a nice fruity character, with some toffee sweetness, and it's a fairly complex character. 3 - 7 - 8 - 4 - 16 = 3.8

Old school 2003 rate: Very dark brown and oily-looking. Bourbon aroma – sweet charcoal, slight vanilla, prunes and big rich malts. Long charcoal and vanilla palate, with noticeable alcohol. Rich fruit esters lie underneath, resulting in a well-integrated brew – rich, warming, enjoyable.8-4-8-4-16 = 4.0

Bottled. Wow! What a nice beer to be finding at your local Jewel. Complex chocolate with other flavors (your dad's pipe smoke?), nuttiness is implied more than overt. Take this one home with you and it'll respect you in the morning.

Draft, at the brewery. Not a hophead’s IPA, but a good one to suggest to friends. All the homebrewers gathered at the brewery break room agreed the color was "orange." A nice fizzy head helps spread the hop aroma. Yes, there is hop bitterness, but as Dick Solomon on "Third Rock" said, "Not in that fun, spanky way." You also get a balanced fruity taste that matches the maltiness nicely. Well done, and in stores at popular prices. Re-tasted, 2/6/04: Hmm... the hop component is getting stronger, if anything. Not "extreme" yet, but still good (and I ran my finger through a trash can of foam they were using for blow-off in this brew’s fermenter... mmm, bitter!

Draft, at the brewery. Tried this at the breakroom of Goose's brewing plant, so if they still microbrew it at the brewpub, it may be different. Nice light color and appealing aroma. Sweet malt flavor, hops are noticeable but not in the way, and some yeasty taste, too. Kölsch is not a common style in the midwestern US, and it's nice that the Goose (and other brewers) are using it as their summer beer. Hope it turns on a few new people to the world of beer.

A tasty, refreshing Kolsch from Chicago's "micro" macro, Goose Island! Lightly hoppy, lemony aroma gives way to a similary accentuated flavor. Very refreshing, definitely one to bring to the beach or to enjoy at a barbeque.

Black with a tan head. Aroma of burnt wood that is at first overpowering but relaxes as the beer warms. Some taste of coffee.

Good colour, orange with a light amber tint. A great smell for hop lovers...most likely very well dry-hopped. The taste was great too...very light in the mouth, but with a hoppy aftertaste that lingers perfectly. One of the better IPA's by a larger producer of beers.

Orange colour as weak tea - virtually no head. Citrus-hops and preserved ginger, succade, in the nose. taste is very hop-bitter, noble hops. Bitter-herbal too. Again something as preserved dessert-ginger or khulfi. Quite refreshing, yet not light-bodied. A bit oily. Long bitterish aftertaste, giving an impression of hopextract. Nice American IPA, hyper-classical, but well worth the trouble.
