About
It had always been an ambition of Tom Minshull to start a brewery, having been involved a while back with Burt's Brewery due to its links with his company, Island Ales. Tom was only prepared to start this venture when the time was right and only if it was done properly and with attention to detail and above all, to be able to produce a first class product.

When Chris Coleman agreed to come on board as the brewer, the ability to produce a first class product was in place. Chris brings a wealth of experience, expertise and respect, which has been gained over many years as a brewer of some distinction.

Following extensive research and site visits to mainland breweries by Steve Minshull and Chris Coleman it was decided not to use second hand equipment but to use a company called Johnson Engineering, a company specialising in brewery manufacture based in Bolton, Lancashire, to make for us a brewery to our specifications.

500ml Bottle - Copper coloured. Raisins, earthy hops and caramel in the aroma. Fruity and malty taste with raisins, nuts and earthy hops detected. Not bad and fairly refreshing.

Bottle at Medehamstede Hotel, Shanklin whilst on short IOW break. Pours a clear, fairly attractive light brown colour with an off-white head. Appearance its high point, just a very slight hoppy and fruity aroma. Bitter finish. Thin. Disappointing overall.

Bottle at Medehamstede Hotel, Shanklin whilst on a short break on IOW. Pours a clear golden colour with a white head. Grainy aroma. Slight bittter finish. Not much body. Rather disappointing.

50cl bottrle picked up on the island. A flat amber pour with just a trace of white head; honey aroma; rich and malty in the mouth, but with a farmyard taste with just a hint of citrus; then some gentle hops before a toasty, honeyed, finish.

50cl bottle picked up on the IOW. Another dull and boring blond ale. Crisp and grainy, but lacking character or ambition.

50cl bottle at Little Gloster, Cowes, IOW. Straw with a thin white head; grainy aroma with a touch of honey; toasty grain flavour; some reasonable English hops (Goldings?) to finish. Not very exciting.

Bottle 500ml.[ Courtesy of Thomas ]. Clear medium amber orange colour with a average, frothy - fizzy and open, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, moderate hoppy, citrus, orange - citrus, dry grass. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, hop bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120128]
