About
8 Wired is a micro brewing company based in Warkworth, New Zealand.

Our mission is to produce mind blowing beers that will wow craft beer lovers, excite fellow beer geeks and educate the mis-guided who still believe that "beer is just beer". If you want to come on this journey with us, please get in touch.

8 Wired Brewing is inspired by the legendary Kiwi can-do mentality and fellow craft brewers who have dared to challenge the masses and show us all that beer is no longer “just beer”! Known for producing “New world interpretations of old world styles” 8 Wired have multiple shades of very hoppy IPAs, Saisons, Porters and Stouts in their permanent line up and have the biggest barrel aged and sour program in the southern hemisphere.

After 5 years of contract brewing, eventually at 4 different breweries across New Zealand we now finally have our very own brewery (In Warkworth, North of Auckland) where we brew and package everything.

Chunky, chewy, hazy orange and copper coloured body with a dense, thick, microbubbled tan head - this is an amazing looking IPA. Aroma of juicy, mouthwatering pine and grapefruit hops with a touch of honey and citrus, but a very bittering smell. Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppy flavour with some resin and grapefruit, then showing some sweetness of pineapple and a touch of honey and malt. Aftertaste is a bit hoppy, but full of tropical flavours and some light herbal and floral tastes. Overall, a very good looking and smelling beer, but the taste was a bit one dimensional and underhopped in my opinion, especially considering the smell. A strong beer, but not better than most West Coast [American] IPAs. I sampled this tall 500mL bottle purchased from Olive Tree Marketplace in San Diego, California on 08-February-2011 for US$9.99 sampled at home in Washington on 26-February-2011.

Pours dark brown with ruby tints and a lasting creamy head with loads of lacing.Nose shows soft nutty malt alongside lots of caramel and chocolate. Also present is a big piney, earthy hop hit.Flavours are more roasty, lots of cocoa and nutty notes. Again, there’s a fair amount of piney hops. Finishes with a strong hoppy bitterness, a bit too strong in my opinion.Nice moderate carbonation.

Bottle at CP&K thanks to madmitch76. It pours a cloudy amber colour with thin white head. The nose is surprisingly sweet; grape, raisin, grapefruit and a little ginger. The taste is orange peel, passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry, lemon sherbet and some hay, grass and varnish. Quite a bit sweeter than expected, perhaps I need to drink a fresher batch??

Bottle at CP&K thanks to madmitch76. It pours a mahogany colour with low/moderate carbonation and a thin beige head. The nose is full of dark fruits; raisins, dates, prunes and roasted malt. The taste is caramel, smokey, slightly citrus, burnt sugar, liquorice, oak and has light bitter finish. It’s not bad, but not overly exciting.

Bottle shared with Mes&Sim, Leighton and Scopey at the CP&K. Cheers! Hazy amber beer. Light off white head. Soft palate. Creamy malt base. Mellow marmalde hops. A little lactose, Very slightly sour. Nice but not quite as good as the other two 8 Wired beers we tried this evening. Reading the description - I didn’t really get all the NZ hoppy goodness. Just decent mellow hops. Maybe a bit tired after it’s long journey? Intriguing - should try this again.

Bottle shared with Mes&Sim, Leighton and Scopey at the CP&K. Cheers! Clear dark red brown beer. Nice big tan head. Minerally dark malt nose. Light softish palate, a little dry. Soft dark malt on the tongue. Lightly smoked - very nicely judged amount. A little fruit in the background. A well joined up porter and quite seductive.

Bottle shared with Mes&Sim , Leighton and Scopey at the CP&K. Cheers! Clear brown beer with a good light brown head. Softish palate. Rich malt with whispers of coffee and chocolate. Quite a vibrant malt here actually! A little hop bitterness and mild citrus in the finish. Not immediately obvious but after a while you realise this is quite a sweetish beer. A very decent brown ale, one of the best I’ve tried!

(bottle) Hazy, dark brown colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Moderately sweet and roasted malty aroma with a distinctive touch of chocolate and a tinge of mocha, accompanied by a fruity and slightly piney hoppy touch. Bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Moderately roasted malty taste with hints of chocolate and fruity hoppy notes lingering into the moderately roasty malty finish. Aromatic and hoppy Brown Ale. 16.II.11
