Description
Maplewood opened with the mission to push liquid boundaries in an unassuming building nestled in Chicago’s historic Logan Square neighborhood.
The first of its kind to establish brewing and distilling roots under a single roof, Maplewood has been producing finely crafted beer and spirits out of their 10BBL brewhouse and 250L Kothe hybrid still since 2014. Three years after moving into the production facility, Maplewood opened the Lounge, a neighborhood bar doubling as a cocktail parlor and brewery taproom. Beginning commercial distribution throughout Illinois shortly after settling into the Logan Square space, Maplewood has since expanded their distribution footprint into Missouri, SW Michigan, Northern Indiana, Wisconsin and Kansas. Maplewood’s patrons have come to expect expertly crafted beer in a wide range of styles.

16oz can pours out hazy golden topped with a white head. Nose is nice citrus orange upfront some tropical notes. Taste is more of the nice orange citrus notes and a light sweet note.

Cloudy, bright orange body, thick, marshmallowy cream head. Nose initially a burst of passionfruit, followed by sweet-earthy stone fruits, melon, and floral notes. Body sweet, juicy, and tropical, with pineapple, lychee, berries, passionfruit, papaya, and subtle dank elements building in the finish. Creamy, soft, pulpy. Classic.

16 oz. can. Dated 05/10/21. Tfontana picked this up at Americas favorite discount liquor store! Total Wine & More! Aroma of pineapple, lime and spruce notes. Taste has mango, tangerine rind, and Something that resembles spruce to me. Also a little bit of table sugar. It does show some light juice. Overall, just seems very average to me.

Cloudy, murky apricot orange-brown body, thin clumping off-white head. Nose dominated by lactose, otherwise herbal. Body reminded me of orange cream drops, with fruity hops, vanilla, and lactose joining in a candy-like harmony. Tasty.

Can (5/10/21) pour from Total Wine & More, Brentwood. It's a cloudy yellow with nice sparkle, finger-width white foamy head with good retention and fair lacing. Aroma is strong sharp grapefruit and stone fruit. Taste mirrors aroma with hint of pineapple as it warms. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, nicely juicy though a little thin.

16oz can from Tavour. Orange golden pour with a substantial fluffy head. Light citrus aroma, mostly oranges. Taste brings the citrus zest, light blasts of tangy notes that leave a tingle on the palate.

My first in the series, intensely zesty sour vibes, a bit more Yuzu than lemon. Lemongrass and earthy oak esters keeps it in the saison realm, and while the aroma reminds me of mosquito repellent candles it’s actually quite good.

.3 litre mug at Goldfinger. The mug shows a golden beet color. A lot of lace at the sides as the foam sinks away. Clean, slightly grainy beer smell. The taste is nice, as a clean German beer. Ale yeast gives it just a bit of fruit, right the edge of my perception. Then there's a nice note of Noble hops, giving some peppery sharpness. But toasty malts stay in the forefront. I think I can finally distinguish this kölsch from a standard German lager.
