Maplewood’s patrons have come to expect expertly crafted beer in a wide range of styles.

Not bad, offering up a modest note of caramel and cracker with a touch of tropical fruit, with a good bit of grapefruit and citrus pith on the back end and a shitload of piney bitterness. Solid pint.

I appreciate the restraint on the lactose--too often milk stout equates to Tootsie Roll--but never really develops a soul of its own. The roasted notes are very subdued, the texture's pretty light and sparkly for a stout, and the finish lacks much of a presence at all.

Pounder can for 3$. Pour is nearly clear lemon yellow with a nose of citrus on the lemon side. Decent half inch white head. First taste does possess that typical medium pils bite. In the middle, that pils sharp bite really begins to set in. Not as good as many old style pils from across the ocean but it holds it own. Finish needs a few manners if it wants to keep up with Portsmouth Pils, Gizmo Dad's Jokes or even Erie's Hard Cock Pilsner. There, you have it.

0.473l can from Beer Republic. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, cocoa, dried fruit and grass. Pours almost black color with thin creamy light brown head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with medium sweet and rich roasted malt and milk chocolate, following is caramelly, earthy and grassy, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is pretty bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Creamy dog…

12 oz draft at The Belfry in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a yellow golden with a well formed ½ inch white head. The aroma is cereal malt, bread, along with the slightest hint of toast. The taste is clean Helles, malt character, touch of floral, and the breadiness throughout. The palate is medium to light bodied, soft carbonation and a clean, mineral dry finish. Nice one.

Deep dark brown in color. Not much head or foam. Taste and aroma is chocolate, coffee and dark, roasted grains.
