The Peacock at Barlow, Hackney Lane, Barlow, S18 7TD, England
Description
We've been in the pub trade all our lives. Sold millions of gallons of beer, operated and owned some of the best brands in the business. But never had our own brewery… and that just wouldn't do. So here comes Collyfobble – beltingly good ales from our little barn in Barlow. Cheers!

Bottle from Cromford Mills Cheese Shop. New brewery for me. Deep mahogany with middling fizz and a rapidly vanishing head. Chocolate, nuts, malt and treacle, with a hint of stewed plums in the background. Decent flavour, albeit a tad thin. Enjoyed it.

Cask at Hourglass, Tutbury (not listed in RB). Pours a slightly hazy lemon yellow with a small off-white head and good lacing. Floral hops to the fore in the aroma plus some hints of corn. In the mouth it is sweet, zesty and with a hint of sharpness. Flavour is mainly berry fruits (raspberries in particular) plus traces of ginger and tropical fruits. Finish is quite dry and slightly bitter. This is eminently reasonable – light and refreshing.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines. Pours a little lifeless. Sits hazy pale gold. Slim white foam. Very nice Nelson twang. Clean malts. Sweet grain up front. Twangy bitterness. Little dull on the palate. Minimal carbonation. Semi sweet finish. Probably a decent beer but the condition is poor.

Hand-pulled cask pint in the Old Bank, Matlock Bath on 6th May 2023. Beige head on the clean amber body, it's an old school twiggy Bitter. Slightly more malty than hop bitter, it has a leaning towards nuts and earthiness.

Hand-pulled cask pint in the Old Bank, Matlock Bath on 6th May 2023. Clean golden body, thin white head. Mild citrusy nose and initial taste, caramel maltiness arrives and goes before the semi-dry finish gives a hop bitterness.
