Cask ale, half pint at Cotswold Arms. Clear chestnut coloured body, bubbles on the surface, fragile lacing. Modest smell of herbal hops and grain. Ripe lemon to the taste character added by hints of biscuits. Drying close. Easy going. (Burford, Cotsworld 26.04.2025).

[Cask at the Greyfriar, Reading.] A pale chestnut pour with a tight cream head; aroma of purple fruit and malts; smooth in the mouth with a malty body, some prunes and raisins; then a tangy fruity sourness and a dry finish with some caramel. Very tasty.

Bottle from my brother for Xmas. Clear mid brown colour thin beige head. Malty ale yeast fruit aroma. Malty in the mouth. Some pepper hop finish. Hedgerow fruit and leaves. As a best bitter it's the kind of bitter I love. I love the taste of the malt. I like the hedgerow fruit the pepper hops. I bet this is great on cask. Must seek that out.

Bottle from Melbicks Garden Centre, Coleshill. Clear light amber with small consistent white top, decent lacing. Aroma of sweet malts. grain, touch of marmalade, floral to herbal note. Taste of toasted malt, light diacetyl butter note but light enough to add to flavour rather than detract, some citrus. My issue is the finish has light herbal and spice notes and light bitterness - lacks an oomph for want of a better word even for a gold. Good body and smoothness for the strength though. OK.

500ml bottle kindly gifted to me by my neighbour randomly. Pours a clear but very dark copper brown, barely any head. Aroma of caramel and nutty/biscuity malts. Taste of nutty/biscuity and caramel malts, seems slightly sweet at first but finishes with a pretty strong bitterness. Decent.
