Keg tap at the Parcel Yard, Leicester. Dark brassy gold, hazy. Tiny white head. Noticeable lacing. Melon, papaya, metal and sweat in the aroma. Bittersweet taste with tropical fruit hop to the fore, but also a wine gum sweetness. Long flavourful finish. Good IPA if slightly more by-the-numbers than I’d have liked in a perfect world...

Cask pint: 17th June 2017. Sat outside the Victoria Hotel, Beeston. Thin white head on my golden pint. Slight citrusy/tropical fruit aromas and flavours, not really my thing. Sick to death of golden citrusy beers! Scored objectively because it was fine, just not my taste. Plus I don’t like ’Leicester City’.

Cask at the Squirrel, Penn Street, 12/06/17. Clear golden with a well appointed white head that retains well. Nose is big on bready malts, grains, straw, faint citric notes. Taste comprises bread dough, pale malts, toasted grains, straw, lemon drizzle, melon, biscuit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with mellow bitter tones. Decent enough cask offering but a touch hot (in a cask way) to provide lager refreshment.

Handpull cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Reddish Amber, clear with only a tiny bit of head. Turpentine and cedar aroma. Malt and more malt. Taste is malt-heavy but not the bomb I was expecting from the aroma. There’s a gentle bittering hoppiness that balances the beer and keeps it light. It isn’t the best beer I’ve had, but I like it more as I drink (always a good sign). Toffee notes galore in the aftertaste.

Handpull cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Light yellow, indeed almost straw. Very clear and with a tiny assembly of head-impersonating bubbles. Aroma is intensely floral/botanical: gardenia, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass. Slight soapy tinge. Gentle taste, mild citrus hops. Very thin and oily body but it fits the beer. Lingering lime in the aftertaste. This sort of thing isn’t usually my cup of tea but I’ve enjoyed every sip today.
