440ml can from Brewer - murky ugly amber body, ring of white head. Nose of apricot, peach, stone fruit. Taste has a sweet start, sharp pithy citrus follow up and long bitter finish. Nice.

440ml can delivered from Hoptimism. As Watermelon Steam. Dark gold and a little hazy with a small white head. Slight aroma of watermelon with some orange and lemon. Sweet taste with more watermelon and citrus hovering above a grassy and glue easiness character. Medium to long finish, heavy carbonation. The watermelon is still present in the aftertaste. California Commons are a hard sell - its been a while since I've seen one - but the watermelon certainly gives it a twist.

On cask at Great Northern Food Festival, Scampston - Cloudy orange smoothie body, little white head. Lots of unripe mangoes on the nose, taste is a tart mango chutney with a pithy sourness that leaves a clean bitter finish. Enjoyed.

Keg @ Nightjar, Hebden Bridge. Cloudy dirty amber in colour, quite dense in texture, although not particularly strong, however this texture is perhaps more of a dominant characteristic than the fruitiness of its hops in this brew.

Cask at Exeter Arms, Derby What a monster of a beer this is ! Bar staff quite rightly stopped me ordering a pint, before I realised how strong it was. It pours jet black with minimal beige head. The aroma is misleadingly average – just some ginger. But in the mouth there is a whole kaleidoscope of flavour. Mainly ginger, but also molasses, treacle, liquorice, parking and “old English Spangles”. Finish is packed with ginger too, plus an overall boozy feeling. Simply gorgeous – and not to be rushed … Appears to be the strongest cask beer I’ve ever drunk.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby Pours a murky chocolate brown with minimal beige head – looks revolting ! Aroma is of milky chocolate. In the mouth texture is creamy with flavours of dark fruts, dandelion / burdock, chocolate and hints of apple. Fruityness carries through to the finish. This is really nice, but doesn’t have much of a “stouty” character (too fruity).

Cask at Smithfield, Derby Pours jet black with no head. The most prominent aroma is salted peanuts, but there’s also chocolate . Peanuts and chocolate again in the mouth, but also hints of doughnut and vanilla. The whole combination is rather sweet, but with an alcoholic strength. Finish is sweet and boozy too. Very nice for sipping, but not sure I’d want another !

Cask at the Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge. Hazy Golden-amber with a bubbly head. It's fairly juice with a light but tasty example of its fruit flavour.
