Description
Like most good stories, ours started over a beer. Meeting on opposite sides of the bar, Richard Adamson and Oscar McMahon got talking over their love of beer and music, and discovered they also shared the view that the Australian beer scene felt a little stagnant – that it should be more adventurous, innovative and fun. With Richard’s experience in brewing, and Oscar’s hospitality know-how, they decided they should do more than just talk.

Overcoming a tangle of red tape, Young Henrys eventually found a home in a modest warehouse in the backstreets of Newtown. With a few friends, a small brew kit and the maxim to ‘serve the people’, the first Young Henrys beers were brewed in March 2012.

On tap at Welder's Dog, Armidale. Red/brown ale with a small creamy head. Many streams of tiny bubbles. Light nose of malt and perhaps lavender? Very smooth and flavourful. Laces well. It's kinda sweet and dry at the same time. Lots of flavours, bergamot?. I assume it's the barrel ageing giving all the complexity. Cashmere hops? I don't know but it has a beautiful sweet finish with some dry tannic notes. Gorgeously drinkable.

375ml can into pint glass. From BWS, Glen Innes. Pale amber beer with high fine carbonation. Big white head of froth. Nose is tropical fruit with malt background. Patchy lacing.Taste is fairly indistinct but finish is nice. Early fruit hints give way to lingering bitter lemon and orange pith, even some cashew. Nice and dry at the end, super easy drinking. Will be great on a hot day.

Bizarre blurb: those musos were not unifiers, they were dissenters. Anyway. Fairly hazy amber with a dense cm of white head. Aroma of apricot, tinned pineapple, bread. So it tastes. Sweetish with a little nip of astringency to assist the lowish bitterness at the end. Amiable drop.
