Description
Chalk Hill Brewery was formed in 1993 by Bill Thomas, Tiny Little and David Blake – a group of friends with a shared interest in sailing, and beer. It now stands as the longest running independent brewery in Norwich!
The brewery was named after the surrounding area which was previously known as Chalk Hill, and is now Rosary Road. The brewery is a custom built 15 barrel plant and brews a selection of permanent and seasonal real ales. The brewery supplies it’s beer to local pubs including The Coach and Horses which is on the same site as the brewery.

Gravity poured pint during the 2013 CAMRA AGM in Norwich. Really dark body, deep ruby red/brown with a creamy head. Burnt malts ruled the nose and taste: roasted coffee and dark bitter chocolate flavours come into play early on as well. Earthy rather than rich or creamy in the body feel, depth of flavours good. I’d had nothing but golden citrusy beers before this during this session, I needed a dark malt laden brew and this fitted the need in perfect style.

Cask at GBBF 2011, Day 2. Pours ruby-brown with a tight, foam head. Dark fruits and subtle dark malts in the aroma. Medium sweet flavor, some doughy malts and toast, dark fruits, hints of brown sugar. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Sweet, dark sugar finish, with restrained dark fruits, light roast and cocoa. Great stuff. Really right on target.
