Brother Jacob was created by two beer lovers, Johan Claes and Bruno Verbiest. The first brew was launched on October 16, 2010.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is sweet pale malt with oak, vanilla, sherry, and stewed fruits. Flavour is medium sweet with a light to moderate bitterness. Body is medium, light sticky texture. Little complexity, but drinkable with pleasant sherry tones.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is ripe fruits with sugary apricot, malt, orange, light apple/calvados, yeast, and touch of caramel. Flavour is sweet and a little boozy, light bitter, body is above medium. Fairly pleasant with plenty of ripe/almost dried (stone) fruits.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is heavy on the wood with malt, soft rum, some spicy notes, light sugary fruits. Oaky finish. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. More wood than rum-infused, nice.

Can 33cl. @home poured into a shaker. Clear pale amber colour, tall frothy off-white head, good retention but collapsing unevenly, sticky lacing. Aroma bready malt, lemon, grain, wort. Taste medium sweet and slightly bitter, malty, grain, some caramel. Lightbody, watery texture, soft carbonation, short and mild sweetbitter aftertaste, acceptable.

Bottle with cork 0,75ltr: Hazy dark brown coloured brew with an fine aroma and taste of coffee in a gentle way. Taste of roasted malts and some chocolate and caramel.

Bottle at De Weerelt, Leuven: Very dark brown coloured brew drunk under its alias Broeder Jacob Double Port. Taste smoothly sweet and some hints of caramel and the port.

Bottle 0,33ltr: Slightly hazy golden colored brew with an dry bitter taste ans hints of spices and slightly lemony. Likes an Duvel but with an lower alcohol, and obvious an football/soccer themed beer label.

Tap at Cafe Hesp, Amsterdam: Clear Brown colored brew with an dry bitter taste with some hints of caramel. Typical Belgian Dunkel Bock it lacks the sweetness of the Dutch ones.
