Bath Ales
Commercial Brewery
in Bristol,
Bristol,
England 🏴
Owned by
St. Austell Brewery
Associated Venue: Graze Bar, Brewery & Chophouse (Bath Ales)
Established in 1995
Moved to Siston Lane, Bristol in the summer of 1999.
Having outgrown these premises a further relocation to their current site at Units 3-7 Caxton Industrial Estate, Crown Way, Warmley, Bristol was carried out during March 2004.
A 50 barrel brewplant is used. A small on-site brewery was installed at their new (2013) Graze pub in Bath and was used to brew Platform 3 beer (originally 5.7%, latterly 4.5%) and the occasional special.
The beers branded as Beerd were from a small-batch plant within the main brewery at Warmley.
Mid 2016 brewery bought out by St. Austell brewery, with the inevitable cessation of the Beerd brand and the brew plant in Bath.
Production of Bath Ales cask range has been reduced to just Gem, with the spare capacity used by St. Austell for overflow production of Tribute and other St. Austell beers.
Since late 2025 Bath Ales became just a brand of St. Austell

Bottle from Tesco. Exudes a pleasant aroma of fresh hops and lemon. Pours a plae lemon yellow with a transient frothy white head. Low carbonation and a watery texture. Lots of hops in the mouth – but not the kind I like ! The kind that have a taste resembling used ash trays. Finish is slightly less hoppy. Do I really have to drink the rest of this bottle ? Sigh. { Wouldn’t call it a golden ale either. A pale ale or an IPA }

500ml bottle BBE May 2021. Pours a straw pale colour with a white head and advertised on the bottle as a Pale Ale no doubt for this reason. Malt, citrus and hop aroma. Nice level of carbonation on the palate, smooth also and not too watery so good body. Taste of malt, bread, a moderate sweetness and a bitter crisp finish. It’s not absolutely packed with flavour but there are some subtle notes, it’s extremely well balanced and has good body. Excellent session beer.

500ml bottle. Decent amber pour and thickish head. A malt and biscuit flavour with a mild bitter finish. Not picking up much of the dark fruity notes. Tastes ok but a bit dull.

Bottle from Tesco, Aldershot. Sweet grassy citrus aroma. Gold. Bubbly translucent white head promptly recedes. Medium bitter. A hoppy bite. Fades. Gets grassy. But maintains citrus sourness. Light-medium bodied. Slick if a tad watery. Average-fizzy carbonation. Dry finish. Decent if even if it feels all a tad washed out.

Can thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden with a generous fluffy head. Nose - pith and light sweat. Probably going towards grapefruit in terms of specific citrus fruit. Light dishcloth but not too intrusive or giving evidence of any fault. Taste - more grapefruit and pith. Palate - light bodied, creamy texture, dry balanced finish. Overall - decent example of the style.

Can from Tesco. Pours clear pale yellow gold with a thin white head. Aromas of citrus, light tropical fruit and faint malt. Taste has good pithy bitterness and faint malt sweet at the back. Not bad.

Bottle had on a night out in Bath at one of the Bath Ales pubs as Bath Ales Barnstormer (which was a much better name imo). Poured dark amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, light fruit, and toasted notes. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Bit above average carbonation but ok. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Barnstormer on 23 Jul 2009 at 23:00 - Score: 6.5. Original review text: 24/7/2009. Cask at the Green Dragon Ale Festival, Croydon.
