Description
Sudwerk Brewing Co. was founded in 1989 by two German descendants determined to share the high-quality, familiar taste of true German lagers. Since then, we have been relentlessly pushing the boundaries of traditional lager making for 30 years; pioneering the craft beer industry along the way.
We choose to brew lagers not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because the end result will serve to refresh and bring the best of our energies and skill, because the challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to drink, with others too.
Our beer making processes are rooted in traditional German brewing methods but blended with modern, West-Coast craft beer practices. We are not afraid of the time consuming and difficult nature of lagers but instead find it to be an exhilarating challenge. We showcase clean, crisp yeast character, powerful flavor-packed hop bombs, and beautiful malt backbones; all on a lager frame. This is not the dull can of lager beer you think you know.

Pour is a clear orange with a large white head. Aroma is a decent toasted bread. Flavor is more toasted bread with some bitterness and a small sweet pop at the end. Decent German fest beer with a nice toasted malt.

From can to glass. Clear golden with nice white head. Head retained well. Overt grain and grass on the flavor and aroma.

Pour is a clear gold with a large white head. Aroma is more of a pale malt with a minor hop. Flavor is some minor citrus hop and a bit of pale chalky malt. Not overly hoppy and I was really expecting those lemon drop hops to come out. It was a bit of citrus but nothing like I expected. The other IPL I just had from the brewer was a lot better.

Pour is a clear golden with a large white head. Aroma is a decent berry fruit hop and not much of the malt. Flavor is pretty much like the aroma. Decent fruity hops with some berry showing up and a little pop of bitterness on the back end. Decent hops no heavy malt to get in the way this was very drinkable.

Pour is a clear copper with a large white head. Aroma is a minor hop with some bready malt. Flavor is some toasted wheat bread malt and again any hop is way in the back round. The malt bill for this type of beer is all wrong. Too much vienna malt covering up the hops. You have to go with something like a pils malt to let the hops shine.

When I was in my local beer store I saw this beer and saw triple. I love a good triple. When I got home I saw this is a 10% triple IPL, which is not my bag. Pour is a hazy copper with a large white head. Aroma is honeycomb sweetness with a decent hop. Flavor is a chewy malt a very minor hop and the alcohol is felt well after the swallow. Again this is not for me and I would not have picked it up If I was not lazy and read the label. It's a heavier malt laden malt liquor.

Pour looks like a hazy IPA but this is a lager. Huge foamy white head. Aroma is melon and red berry hops. Flavor is more melon and some pear with a bit of white pepper on the back end. Finish is a bit bitter with some lemongrass. This was hazier and hoppier than some hazy IPA's I've had. Real good stuff.

Can from Cap Tap. Pours dark brn/blk with a foamy tan head that collapsed to creaminess. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and smooth toasted malt. Full bodied or more. Flavor is creamy chocolate with vanilla (and lactose) and burnt dark malt. A bit too burnt for a standard donut, but I can imagine VooDoo Donuts making one tasting just like this. Not dry. Burnt malt for bitter. This is way out of the ordinary and tastes amazing.

Tap at Cap Tap. Pours lightly translucent red with a slight pinkish head. Aroma seems a tad more cran than rasp. Med body. Flavor is mildly tart mixed berry - more cran bitter than raspberry, but both are present. There’s a wheaty touch in the finish. Except for that it is quite tasty. Lots of fruit. Might be a slight touch of citrus. Quite drinkable.
