Description
Sudwerk Brewing Co. was founded in 1989 by two German descendants determined to share the high-quality, familiar taste of true German lagers. Since then, we have been relentlessly pushing the boundaries of traditional lager making for 30 years; pioneering the craft beer industry along the way.

We choose to brew lagers not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because the end result will serve to refresh and bring the best of our energies and skill, because the challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to drink, with others too.

Our beer making processes are rooted in traditional German brewing methods but blended with modern, West-Coast craft beer practices. We are not afraid of the time consuming and difficult nature of lagers but instead find it to be an exhilarating challenge. We showcase clean, crisp yeast character, powerful flavor-packed hop bombs, and beautiful malt backbones; all on a lager frame. This is not the dull can of lager beer you think you know.

Bottle from Jane’s. Deep rich golden pour, frothy head. Nice big full malty, grainy aroma, fresh bread. Taste brings a little sweetness, and a little tang. Hoppy backbone tingles the palate, and lingers for a while. This style is one of my guilty pleasures, and this one’s up to the task.

Tap at Cap Tap. Pours translucent copper with a whitish head. Aroma is fruity. Med ++ body. Flavor is earthy, malty, citrusy, fruity. Not entirely dry, and not harshly bitter. Seems to have achieved balance. But it’s bitter enough.

Squealer from the Dock Store. Pours translucent dark copper with a light beige head. Aroma is mildly roasty malt with some arguable grassy hop. Med body. Flavor is malty in a fruity way and the hop does seem something like mixed grass and light spice. Smooth. Rather mouth smacking (literally). I’d say it fits the style. With time it brought tea to mind - Earl Grey. Interesting. Pleasant to drink.

Pint on tap at the Dock Store. Pours hazy, opaque dark apple juice/pulp color with a beige head. Aroma is fruit juice. Full bodied. Flavor is spritely, hoppy and juicy. Pale stone fruits with a touch of apple and something "green" in flavor. Definitely towards dry, yet nicely bitter. Very delicious.

10th Feb 2017: First beer on my first flight at Devilicious, Temecula California. I wanted some thing to cleanse my palate before attacking the stronger and darker brews. Having said that it was a fine beer and a lot more than a ’fill in’ to rinse my mouth out with. Pale gold pour, fading white head. Citrus leanings in both the nose and taste, more hoppy than malty, dry bittering finish: decent.
