Description
Residents of Boston’s North Shore were first introduced to Ipswich Ale during the spring of 1991. With over 30 years of history behind it, Ipswich Ale has been in existence longer than nearly every other craft brewer in New England. Since that time, the Ipswich Ale portfolio of brands have developed into a tradition shared by not only the residents of eastern Massachusetts, but across New England.

Took over production for Newburyport Brewing in 2019, before both breweries were acquired by Huntwicke Capital Group later that year.

Began a partnership with RiverWalk Brewing in late 2023, moving the bulk of production to RiverWalk's facilities, while leaving a small pilot system in Ipswich for small batch and experimental brews.

Big thanks to LilBeerDoctor, such a great trader! This is one of many ipswitch I got from her. I saved this till last because its one of my least favorite styles. Pour is a little brown on a pale yellow background. Smell is IPA all the way. Big rocky head does not fade. During the pour this stuff foams like a nitro stout! First taste is on style and rude, big bitter roto-tilling hops across my tongue and down the back of my throat. Quite over the top, borders on imperial IPA territory. Some carbonation in there but its overwelmed by the big obnoxious bitterness. Chewing on green grapefruit rinds mixed with dish soap, yes quite on style. Just a big NASTY reminder why I dislike IPA so much, wew. Long bitter rude finish that reminds me of some of the worst medicine I ever tasted. Tho I don’t like IPA, I asked LilBeerDoctor to send me this since I never had before and she gladly responded!

Big thanks to LilBeerDoctor for this brew, one great trader! Slight haze to a yellow orange brown brew. Particulates floating around in there. Nice rocky head. Smell is just plain ol beery. First taste is somewhat bitter with a chunk of maltiness in there. interesting ale, don’t have too many rude ale attributes. Almost well behaved but never really quite gets there. Bitter finish which is medium long. Nice lacing all the way down to the bottom. Much better than saranac pale ale but not quite asw good as Paper City Holyoke Dam Ale.

A friendly thanks to LilBeerDoctor for this, what a great trader! Well, off the bat I’ll predict this beer rates high because of its hop bite. Sweet smell, nice head, wew. A darker beer, cloudy. Big sharp hop blast that nears IPA territory. Roasted medicinal linger at finish. Roto-tiller plowing topsoil across my tongue and down my throat. Cannot match up to East Ends Gary. Better than goose island christmas.

Big thanks to LilBeerDoctor , great trader! Pour is not real dark and there is little signs of CO2. Good old plain beery aroma with some slight toasty alfactories. First taste is not real bitter but there is some in there, just enough to let you know its a beer with mild personality.. Tasty leather and slaght roast flavors. Friendly and rather easy. Not many rude ale attributes. Sizzles a little on the tongue. finish is fine flowing down the throat beer. Likeable.

Big thanks to the LilBeerDoctor for this really good looking brew. Big and black with a medium tan head that thins to a thinner head later. Good roasty aroma. Thicker chocolatey coffee and burned wet wood flavor embellish the taste buds. I have a soft spot for sweet stouts and this is getting to it. Slight bitter burned but not burning sensations. A decent amount of carbonation but not above average. Gets there. Does that. By the way, I’d never know this was 7%! Wew, I think the mental part of me is now suddenly thinking I’m a little dizzy, heheh. Jest kidding.

Big thanks to the lil’ beer doctor for this brew! Nice clean beery aroma. Hazy darker brew but not dark brown. Malty ale ish flavors with some bitterness in there. A kind personality with decent carbonation. Pearcing finish on the back of the throat. Evolves from mildy interesting to tongue sharp bitter. Nice rings of lacing. Has some mild oily bite like many IPA. Much more bitter than many other in this style.

Big thanks to LilBeerDoctor for helping me procure this sample! Smell is simply clean. Nice looking darker beer. Taste starts off like wet roasty old campfire wood. This elevates to a medium back of throat bitterness. Later, this beer comes across almost like an ESB or sumthin. A smoother bitter drink that possesses a creamy CO2 feel. Mild at times and at other times a bit more personality. Finish is somewhat hoppy for lack of a better description. Lots of personality on the finish too, has a little more wake up than most nut browns. Very glad to have had the chance to taste this, thanks LilBeerDoctor, you rock!

12oz bottle pours a translucent, dark brown with a creamy, lacing, slightly beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity (apples and pears). Flavor is very nice, a nice mild chocolate flavor comes through on the front, light brown sugar, light caramel, light nuts. Sweet malts. A little apple flavor lurking in the background. Finish is medium bodied and sweet. An easy drinker, you could drink this all night. Nose lacks a bit, but the flavor makes up for it.
