Description
Residents of Boston’s North Shore were first introduced to Ipswich Ale during the spring of 1991. With over 30 years of history behind it, Ipswich Ale has been in existence longer than nearly every other craft brewer in New England. Since that time, the Ipswich Ale portfolio of brands have developed into a tradition shared by not only the residents of eastern Massachusetts, but across New England.
Took over production for Newburyport Brewing in 2019, before both breweries were acquired by Huntwicke Capital Group later that year.
Began a partnership with RiverWalk Brewing in late 2023, moving the bulk of production to RiverWalk's facilities, while leaving a small pilot system in Ipswich for small batch and experimental brews.

Dark ruby brown color... more than the average brown ale. Thick foamy off-white head. Leaves lacing. Couldn’t put finger on the aroma exactly, but it was good (everybody on this review board seems to disagree exactly what it was anyway). Bitter front to the taste, with a lot of roasted malts and a fair amount of hops. Well-balanced and very tasty.

Doesn’t look too shabby. Cloudy orange color with a pretty light, but nice looking head, which lasts for enough time I suppose. Smells like piny hops says I. Not very complex. Mostly hops straight to the face. Some citrus in there as well. Not too bad, but nothing really special.

Bottle. (RBNAG 07) A hazy, golden-orange beer with a small, off-white head. A bit sweet, fruity aroma with some hoppy fruityness, leads to a flavor that is quite fruity and hoppy, but too low on maltyness for an English pale ale. Slightly dusty, medium full mouthfeel. Sure a decent beer, but quite boring. (071103)

Re-rate 4/26/11: Bottle. Beer of the month club. Almost clear amber color with a medium white head. Aroma of slightly grainy malt, butter, caramel, some floral/citric hops, grassy notes and some fruity notes. Flavor of malt with some graininess, floral and grapefruity hops, light acidity and a strong, somewhat unpleasant bitterness. Light-medium-bodied. It’s a mess. 5/3/5/2/10=2.5
Bottle sample at a tasting. Cloudy amber color. A quite nice sweet and fruity aroma with some hops, a bit of malt and a bit of caramel. Sweetish flavor with light acidity and a rather bitter finish. Medium-bodied. An OK beer but something feels a bit off. 6/3/6/2/12=2.9

Bottle. Looks good with a large, fizzy head atop a yellow, sparkling body. It’s downhill from there. Average to heavy nose that first comes off as sweet straw and fresh grass, but reveals a hint of cleaning fluid. The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly acidic and lightly bitter. Medium body and a creamy texture that grows chalky. Lively carbonation. The finish leaves a vegetable, canned corn flavor in the mouth.

Pours a beige head with a pretty dark brown body. Malty aroma with nuts and caramel. Taste is molasses, nuts, malts, and caramel. Nutty finish. Sort of semisweet. I really enjoyed this brew.
