Cask at Nags Head, Shrewsbury. Pours “bitter brown” with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. There’s floral hops and marmalade in the aroma. In the mouth it is somewhat bitter with a creamy texture. Flavours of mixed hops, malts and autumn fruits. Hints of dried fruit, toffee and berries come later leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is quite nice – a good old style bitter.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Plight gold, hazy with a thick off-white head. Enticing and intriguing on the nose. Smells of honey, agave syrup, grapefruit, gardenia, stone fruit, vanilla. Taste is sweet initially but becomes bitter very quickly in the long finish. Herbal with notes of grapefruit and coconut. Medium body with softer carbonation. A real treat.

On tap at Old Dairy Taproom Tenterden. Murky orange gold colour lasting white head. Tropical fruit aroma. No thickness in mouth so a bit better. Really rather good. Lovely tropical fruit. Moderate bitterness. I thought decent. Good fruit
