Description
Almost 70 years after the family’s ancestors started farming at Pine Trees Farm, Rob Payne became the 5th generation to join the family business.

The fruit industry, particularly for smaller farms, is a struggling sector in UK agriculture, but Rob was determined to find a way to pay his wage and continue farming.

Making cider seemed like a natural progression. Using apples grown on the farm, Rob made his first small batch of cider in 2009 to sell at local farmers’ markets.

Box @ R&G's Beer Vault, Macclesfield. Very mildly hazed very pale golden cider. Its apple is strong, fairly sweet, perhaps tangy too, and it has a smooth texture.

Bladder bag at the 39 Steps, Broadstairs, 13/05/23. Pale faded yellow meets translucent with little in the way of a head. Nose is apricot, sugars, vague apple notes, straw. Taste comprises modest apricot, background orchard wood, light tannins, sugars. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying close. It's okay ... runs a bit overly sweet but not OTT ... not one I'd revisit though.

Bladder Bag, The Royston Broadstairs, 17/03/23. Almost clear very pale yellow with no head. Nose is big on elderflower, apple skins, hedgerow, light vinous twang. Taste comprises sweet elderflower cordial, apple pulp, sugars, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close. Great elderflower nose bit weighed in rather too sweet. Was a nice blend 50/50 with the Ascension Mothership.
