On tap @Bearded Monk in Denton Tx. Half pour. Black, opaque, can't see, lacy cocoa head. Fumy, mallow, artificial butter & pretzel scent. All fake, but close. Taste is toasty fake pretzel, white bread crust, burnt bagel seasoning, sour char, significant acid. Okay.

I know the quote. Drinking the beer now. 16 oz can brewed by Martin House and bought at Mr. T's across town from me. !0% abv, fairly stout, even for a DIPA. Tonight's glass is my Teku, just one of those evenings. I see a strong dark orange body with a finish of off-white foam. The nose does have the juice going with some hops working its way in. The taste is out there, just like MH does, not resonating with me. Biscuit, earth, orange rind, caramel, pine cones and malt. A full sensation in the drink. Thought it would go a different direction.

Can. Pours dull brown. Vanilla, creme brûlée, orange zest, cheap vanilla, biscuit, children’s cereal, viciously low quality white chocolate. Medium body. Horrific.

$2 single @Webb Chapel beer in North Dallas. Pint glass back at the bnb. Foaming, neon, fruit punch pour. Smell is sweet n sour pickle chips & tomato dust, maybe some cheese. It is strong & almost revolting. Taste is pickle juice, milder & more genuine than the smell. On top of that is some cayenne hot sauce. Beyond all that is some dry grain to remind you that you're an idiot. Crispy, spicy, dry, pure vinegar. Flavor is exactly what you were dreading.

On tap @the Armoury in Dallas, small goblet. Smell is a warming mass of tea, triple sec, sour mix, sticky malt & bourbon. Translucent, Lipton tea, still bubbling. Whiskey sour more so than painkiller sweetness. Big lemon tea, some cordial, okay bourbon, kinda tart, oxidized malt, fucking strong. Tasty. Sticky. Sour. Good.

The label now calls this brew a double red double IPA. Okay. The 12 oz can does pour a nice amber-red liquid with a heroic head of egghshell brown foam, some lacing action developing. It does smell like an IPA. The drink is a combination of red ale and IPA, I will grant the brewer that. But it works. Hoppy for sure, pine, some caramel, malt, maybe some melon and grain. Moderately bitter. A large target to aim at by the brewer, I can appreciate.
